I think they both have, and Shockey isn’t going to hurt Cam and the Panthers at all. I’ve never been a Shockey fan but he showed nothing in Carolina to indicate he’s still the sort of punk that he was as a young kid in New York.

i’m not quite understanding this story…being a panthers fan i’ve loved everything shock has brought to the club…his toughness, dedication to the team, and intensity is contagious. furthermore cam and the rest of the offense has done nothing but rave about the guy and lobby for a new contract.

toomer is trying to diss shock for whatever reason but ends up making eli sound like a push over who can’t control his own huddle. maybe the giants should issue a gag order on all their retired players from now on to keep them from spouting nonsense.

I think Toomer has a point about Shockey in NY, but he was a great player in NOLA and is still held in high regard by the team and fan base. The only reason he was let go was because everyone could see what Jimmy Graham was becoming.

You got a a watered down version of Shockey when the Gmen traded him. Plus the Saints were already considered Brees’ team. When Eli was drafted the Giants had a few larger than life players on the team and it was a lot harder to take control. Also I gained a lot of respect for Brees was Shockey did act up and Drew got right in his face basically saying “you aint pullin that crap down here”

Uh, okay.

All in all it was all about “you have to get the ball to Shockey early to get him in the flow of the game”. I was tired of that bs. Burress also called for the ball a lot, but he wasn’t in Shockey’s league in that regard.

Shockey also complained about blocking, and never wanting or liking to do it ever. When Coughlin made him block more he did it, but didn’t like it. He would much rather run routes and catch plenty of passes.

When Shockey was out Eli didn’t have to worry about Shockey constantly worrying about getting him involved in each game. I addition this expanded the role of the Giants 3rd WR, which was more of an after thought when Shockey was there, with exception to Warner’s games and several from Eli.

Toomer is absolutely right. While his helped Eli plenty, but it wasn’t 100% the reason Eli improved his play and decision making.
