As much as I loved Shock in his time in NY, the dude was a selfish bastid who berated Eli to death after any pass play he didn't get the ball. Shockey was a beast, but Kevin Boss was a better all around TE. You Panthers fans love him? Good, keep him. And quit talking crap on Eli. You guys are just mad we sobered up Kerry Collins and got a Super Bowl out of him!

Jeremy Shockey was a great team player and veteran presence for the Panthers this year. Everyone on the team seemed to love the attitude he brought and how he played. He was Cam's go to TE this year, not Olsen. I don't know what problems he might have had when he was with the Giants, but it sounds like he just wanted the ball, just like every other WR/TE does. I hope the Panthers resign him for another year!

I can definitely see what Toomer is stating . If you have a guy with a pretty big name in the game that is pressuring you for the ball all the time, that takes away from the natural flow of the offense. It also is distracting for QB.

Look at Terrell Owens. He bothered San Fran QB. He bothered Philly QB. He bothered Dallas QB.

Look at Chad Johnson barking at Carson Palmer.

Especially when a guy is fairly young and still proving himself. That QB won't tell the receiver to shut up or go sit down.

I only wish TO played with Kordell.............

But I get Toomer, really.

I know I am just being picky, but if you are going to complain about which is the correct there, you should have put a comma in ur above sentence. I'll leave it to your genius self to figure out where. typical Steelers fan!

So Eli has matured but it is impossible to think that Shockey has, too?

I think they both have, and Shockey isn't going to hurt Cam and the Panthers at all. I've never been a Shockey fan but he showed nothing in Carolina to indicate he's still the sort of punk that he was as a young kid in New York.

BS! I know one year can be completely different attitude wise for a guy like that, but Shockey was the 2nd best signing we had this offseason. He helped Cam so much! I hated the guy when he played for the Giants gained a lot of respect for him when we had to play him twice a year, and now I love him. Dude gives 110% on every play and that was for a 6-10 team!

what?...so you're telling me that a TE wanting the ball would have made eli poop his pampers and lose the super bowl?

i'm not quite understanding this story...being a panthers fan i've loved everything shock has brought to the club...his toughness, dedication to the team, and intensity is contagious. furthermore cam and the rest of the offense has done nothing but rave about the guy and lobby for a new contract.

toomer is trying to diss shock for whatever reason but ends up making eli sound like a push over who can't control his own huddle. maybe the giants should issue a gag order on all their retired players from now on to keep them from spouting nonsense.

@pilot
Get real. John Elway did the same thing as Eli. His legacy was made by what he did on the nfl field. And reality check should tell you if Eli and the Giants win the super bowl his legacy will be looking pretty good as a player. One other thing is that eli couldnt demand the respect he can now because at that point he hadnt won anything yet. Look at sanchez and holmes. Sanchez took team to two afc championship games but because didn't win big one no respect.

The Giants have done very well. The offence plays very well for Eli. He seems comfortable leading it.
Its nothing against him that he doesn't want to bitch fight with primadonas. Their attitude is probably foreign to him.
Give him men, he leads them, get the rest of that selfish garbage off the team.
Its a credit to him, the coach and the other players. And it has been constant since those two clowns left.

Cruz only started 7 games. Nicks played 15. Not too shabby for "no name" WRs. Interesting that NY had the fifth ranked passing offense in the entire league with a "pipsqueak" QB and "no name" WRs. Your football ignorance is staggering.

I think Toomer has a point about Shockey in NY, but he was a great player in NOLA and is still held in high regard by the team and fan base. The only reason he was let go was because everyone could see what Jimmy Graham was becoming.
------------------------------------
You got a a watered down version of Shockey when the Gmen traded him. Plus the Saints were already considered Brees' team. When Eli was drafted the Giants had a few larger than life players on the team and it was a lot harder to take control. Also I gained a lot of respect for Brees was Shockey did act up and Drew got right in his face basically saying "you aint pullin that crap down here"

The thing about Shockey, is, he was always open! At least you he thought so and I got so sick and tired of watching him throw his hands in the air and pout if the ball wasn't thrown his way. Quite honestly Plaxico did that a lot too.

Shockey was like this his entire career. While he was a pretty good player, he also did plenty of complaining. Even when Kerry Collins was there he was like that. He got worse when Coughlin came.

All in all it was all about "you have to get the ball to Shockey early to get him in the flow of the game". I was tired of that bs. Burress also called for the ball a lot, but he wasn't in Shockey's league in that regard.

Shockey also complained about blocking, and never wanting or liking to do it ever. When Coughlin made him block more he did it, but didn't like it. He would much rather run routes and catch plenty of passes.

When Shockey was out Eli didn't have to worry about Shockey constantly worrying about getting him involved in each game. I addition this expanded the role of the Giants 3rd WR, which was more of an after thought when Shockey was there, with exception to Warner's games and several from Eli.

Toomer is absolutely right. While his helped Eli plenty, but it wasn't 100% the reason Eli improved his play and decision making.
