NFL Alumni stands behind George Martin

Last week we noted that questions were being raised about former Giants defensive end George Martin’s leadership of the NFL Alumni Association. Today several members of the organization’s board stood up in support of Martin.

“I can speak for the board of directors,” former Giants and Browns running back Randy Minniear said. “We are absolutely 100 percent unified behind George Martin, his staff and the people working for him.”

Harry Carson, a close friend and former teammate of Martin’s, called Martin “the best person for that job.”

“This is someone I played with, I went to war with, I knew his character, I knew his integrity,” Carson added.

Ron Jaworski, the newest member of the NFL Alumni Association’s board, also said he’s happy to work alongside Martin on behalf of retired players.

“I was tremendously honored when George reached out to me to serve on the board,” Jaworski said.

Martin didn’t answer any of the specific allegations in the detailed FOXSports.com article that raised questions about whether he’s qualified to run the organization. But he did say he’s confident the retired players can be united.

“The reason that we are here to day is not about George Martin,” Martin said, adding that his goal is to “stem the tide of divisiveness and those that would seek to divide us.”
