I for one am quite fed up with the whole Peyron Manning circus, and I hope he finds a team or announces his retirement ASAP.

PM is due a Roster Bonus of $28 mil by March 8th. If the Colts do not pay him or both sides do not agree to renegotiate the bonus or the remainder of his contract which was just redone for 5 years last year then PM will shop his services elsewhere. If he goes elsewhere there will be no draft picks exchanged, the new team will just have to pony up and be willing to pay him very handsomely. On another note I just read an article on USA today and according to them both doctors were his personal doctors. Neither of them were team doctors.

The details of how the injury started are not relevant to the issue. All that matters is what has happened over the course of the last year or so. I agree with you that there is the chance that Manning could come back and be just as good as he was previously. If you read my post again I didn’t say it was impossible-just not likely. But he is in his mid 30′s, has a full year of rust, and finds himself in a delicate situation with respect to his health. To me this doesn’t have the best odds at coming back and playing as though nothing happened and I wonder how long the Colts would go until they decide to consider the future of the team.

There’s 2 real issues. #1 – is the neck structurally sound enough to take a hit in the NFL. And #2 – can the nerves regenerate enough to allow Peyton to perform at or close to the same level as he once did. My guess is the neck vertebrae has healed. However, the nerves and potential performance issues are and will be a concern. It’s no secret that there where whispers from the Dr. The performed the surgery to close confidants and friends that the nerves were frayed and he seriously doubts that peyton will ever play again as he will have trouble with strength, feeling, accuracy and gripping a football.

A good solid defense, good running attack, just missing a couple pieces on offense (say, a franchise-quality QB, for instance), the Skins would be close to making a deep run into the playoffs. That’s gotta be attractive to a guy in Manning’s shoes.

Plus, he gets to play Eli twice a year. How could he not love that opportunity?
