I've always had the utmost respect for PM, but I do believe that he kinda stepped over the line, not waiting for SB week to be over. Seems a bit tactless, especially knowing full well that the media would have a field day and get sidetracked from the Superbowl (against it's own good judgement of course). I for one am quite fed up with the whole Peyron Manning circus, and I hope he finds a team or announces his retirement ASAP.

Still love him though

The dude is 36 years old and his best years are in the rear-view mirror and when training camp starts in July it will have been 18 months since he threw a pass in anger, and he is one big hit away from a wheelchair.

Other than that, no problemo

OK, here we go again. PM is due a Roster Bonus of $28 mil by March 8th. If the Colts do not pay him or both sides do not agree to renegotiate the bonus or the remainder of his contract which was just redone for 5 years last year then PM will shop his services elsewhere. If he goes elsewhere there will be no draft picks exchanged, the new team will just have to pony up and be willing to pay him very handsomely. On another note I just read an article on USA today and according to them both doctors were his personal doctors. Neither of them were team doctors.

I guess Peyton craved some media attention.

His doctors can't talk without his permission, so he is timing his PR move when the media spotlight is hottest.

Sad, really, seeing him try to get his ego stroked

At what point in time will the Colts decline to pay the $28 million bonus? While it’s certainly possible Manning can return and play as though nothing ever happened it seems emminently more likely that he will not be what he once was. Even the season before his injury you could see Father Time catching up with him. …..
_________________________________
PM took a bad hit in late ’06 that caused the problem he’s dealing with now. The hit caused trauma to a neck disc that started to bulge. The bulging put pressure on the nerve to his arm.
Thus the slow decline that Jaws and others noted the past few years.
The disc has been repaired and is not putting pressure on the nerve anymore. The question now is if the nerve heals. If and its a big IF, the nerve heals then PM could very well return to play as well as he did before 2006 for a few more years."

The details of how the injury started are not relevant to the issue. All that matters is what has happened over the course of the last year or so. I agree with you that there is the chance that Manning could come back and be just as good as he was previously. If you read my post again I didn't say it was impossible-just not likely. But he is in his mid 30's, has a full year of rust, and finds himself in a delicate situation with respect to his health. To me this doesn't have the best odds at coming back and playing as though nothing happened and I wonder how long the Colts would go until they decide to consider the future of the team.

Dear Michael Bidwell please jump in your plane and make a trip to Indy like Sunday night and please take Fitz with you. Sorry Kevin Kolb we gave up too much to get you but if PM is at 80% still better than you ! Tell PM we will draft a LT with our first pick sign Garcon to go with Fitz. Running game is solid with Wells and Williams, defense is under rated with Patrick Peterson returning punts and playing DB. Oh and ticket sales will go through the roof !

This is a strategic move on Peyton's part to play this out in the media to gain public support. There's 2 real issues. #1 - is the neck structurally sound enough to take a hit in the NFL. And #2 - can the nerves regenerate enough to allow Peyton to perform at or close to the same level as he once did. My guess is the neck vertebrae has healed. However, the nerves and potential performance issues are and will be a concern. It's no secret that there where whispers from the Dr. The performed the surgery to close confidants and friends that the nerves were frayed and he seriously doubts that peyton will ever play again as he will have trouble with strength, feeling, accuracy and gripping a football.

Washington has plenty of room for Peyton. Dan Snyder already has his plane on standby at Dulles, I'd bet.

A good solid defense, good running attack, just missing a couple pieces on offense (say, a franchise-quality QB, for instance), the Skins would be close to making a deep run into the playoffs. That's gotta be attractive to a guy in Manning's shoes.

Plus, he gets to play Eli twice a year. How could he not love that opportunity?

Hail!!

At what point in time will the Colts decline to pay the $28 million bonus? While it’s certainly possible Manning can return and play as though nothing ever happened it seems emminently more likely that he will not be what he once was. Even the season before his injury you could see Father Time catching up with him. .....

PM took a bad hit in late '06 that caused the problem he's dealing with now.
If and its a big IF, the nerve heals then PM could very well return to play as well as he did before 2006 for a few more years.

So if a team is willing to pony up the 28 million, would the Colts ask for much as far as draft picks? It would be a crafty way for a team well under the cap (Kansas City, Arizona, Seattle) to get him without competing with large markets who would have to wait until he's released because they can't take the cap hit.
