Rex says Sanchez and Santonio will get away on a couples’ retreat

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez and receiver Santonio Holmes may need some marriage counseling.

Jets coach Rex Ryan told the New York Post that Holmes told him he’d like to get away for a weekend retreat with Sanchez to fix their chemistry. Ryan has been steadfast in saying that neither Sanchez nor Holmes is going anywhere, and he says that Holmes sounds like he’s committed to making the relationship work.

It seemed like that was what Santonio was talking about,” Ryan said. “I don’t know if he’s reached out to Mark yet and done anything but that is what I believe to be true.”

Ryan still believes Sanchez and Holmes can be a great quarterback-receiver combination.

“The first year they had good chemistry together,” Ryan said. “Whatever happened, happened but we’ll learn from it. I’m confident because I think we have to be successful, they have to be successful together. I know one thing they are both extremely competitive.”

According to Ryan, both Sanchez and Santonio are committed to making the team better, as is everyone else on the team.

“There isn’t one person in this organization who feels good about where we finished,” he said. “We can’t wait to get it done again. We’d love to be able to play tomorrow. We’ll see. I think the strength of our football team will be in how we feel about each other and all that, the chemistry that we’ve always built. I think that will be a strength and won’t be a weakness like it might have been perceived this year.”

there you go Rex, crack jokes and you wonder why that locker room was in shambles last year….

  3. bennyd720 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:11 AM

So you’re saying Rex Ryan still has no idea about what’s going on inside the Jets locker room?

  4. jrs1972 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:11 AM

how is this guy a head coach yet oblivious to the fact his qb is garbage?

  5. jjrs89 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:13 AM

This is something that a good coach would let fall under the radar instead of screaming “look at me!”

It wont matter anyway after tommorow because the jets are gonna be superbowl champions right?

  8. mempusa says: Feb 4, 2012 10:15 AM

How can anyone involved with the Jets organization question the toughness of the Pats when their creepy coach was crying to them, their QB wears skin tight white and they have to send their QB and WR away to a resort to work on their relationship? Whatta bunch of Nancies!

  9. hus10188 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:16 AM

A bottom 5 QB in the NFL squabbling with a 25th to 20th ranked WR.
Both think they’re better than they are.

    Nobody cares.

I suggest they discuss their relationship on Maury Povich. “Santonio…you are NOT the father!” (Sanchez sobs, grabs helmet, runs offstage).

  11. h3min1230 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:17 AM

Mark will bring his soon to be 17 year old girlfriend, and Santonio will bring a bag of trees, and they’ll have a little double date going.

  12. donterrelli says: Feb 4, 2012 10:21 AM

Holmes will take Sanchez to Anita Bonghit’s Weekend Retreat and have some mind altering sessions together.

    2. Sanchez sucks
    3. Jets are joke
    4. Santonio is a diva
    5. Wait?? the jets aren’t playing this weekend to win their 3rd straight super bowl?

They’ll be jaunting off to a cozy, remote cabin in the woods that has absolutely, positively not already been rigged with 32 separate foot cams streaming live to the internet.

  18. jacunn2000 says: Feb 4, 2012 10:29 AM

That is really special… But the Jets still need to get rid of both of them.

  19. bigdaddystyle says: Feb 4, 2012 10:41 AM

has Rex ever turned down ONE interview?

  20. snoilog says: Feb 4, 2012 10:45 AM

Thank God the Lions took Stafford instead…..

  21. joetoronto says: Feb 4, 2012 10:51 AM

Unless Sanchez can get an arm transplant where he’s going, nothing will change.

  22. gopackgo47 says: Feb 4, 2012 11:02 AM

I remember when Brian Billick always thought that Kyle Boller was always gonna be the Ravens quarterback back in the day… It must be a Baltimore thing going on here..

  23. jimmygrahamchrisivory says: Feb 4, 2012 11:10 AM

Either Rex is scared to hurt Sanchez’ feelings by getting another QB or scared to admit he epicly failed by taking Sanchez so high and not turning out to be a franchise QB.

  24. vicioustackle says: Feb 4, 2012 12:09 PM

Two more Jet wins in 2011 and all this melodramatic post-season fallout never would have been aired.

What used to be fun time has turned ugly very quickly.

It MAY be a long, long, long 2012 for this team.

  25. ppc50 says: Feb 4, 2012 12:57 PM

Wow, a weekend away together, under the stars, a time of reflection. I sincerely hope for Holmes’ sake that he brings extra pairs of socks and shoes for their nightly sleepovers.

  26. coolhandluke1 says: Feb 4, 2012 1:21 PM

One would think that the QB as leader of the team would be the person to reach out to any team member to improve chemistry

  27. tom1954 says: Feb 4, 2012 2:57 PM

The people who consistently whine about this guy talking crack me up. It’s the morons who ask the questions who you should be attacking. Rex is only responding to questions asked. If it weren’t for guys like Rex, what would the neanderthal Pats’ fans have to talk about? The only reason PFT posts stories about the Jets is so the 12 Pats fans with their 32 different usernames can make it look like there’s a lot of traffic on this site. BTW, not a Jets fan, but am sick of arrogant Pats fans. Look at the fish after Marino retired. Same thing will happen to the Pats. Brady goes, so will the Pats. Can’t wait.

  28. ajgreenhof says: Feb 4, 2012 3:58 PM

Sounds like they’d have a great trip. They could talk about how they’re both underachieving first round picks.

  29. thepatriotsaregay says: Feb 4, 2012 4:14 PM

I think its pretty cool and professional for Santonio to admit he’s made mistakes and want to make an effort to patch it up with Mark. I know all these d-bag Pats and Dolphin fans on here will vote down this comment but whatever…

Funny, I thought 11-5 was pretty good without Brady. Quite obviously you are talking out of something other than your mouth.

Yup, and the Fins have had a few good seasons too without Danny Boy. Keep thinking that 2008 was what your future will be without Gisele’s boy toy. You’re delusional.

  32. bigbluelou says: Feb 8, 2012 4:16 PM

Do you ever notice after a loss, Rex ALWAYS says “I wish we could go back out there and play them again right now” This guy is a tool. Either coach your team or join the circus.

  33. bigbluelou says: Feb 8, 2012 4:20 PM

Sanchez is a pathetic excuse for a professional QB, Did he even show his face during SB week? what Mark your feelings are hurt cuz you didn’t make the playoffs so you stomp your feet walking away? Please…this guy better learn to hold his emotions in check or he won’t last much longer playing in New York.
