Kevin Faulk was not active for the Super Bowl on Sunday night. He’s not expected to be active again as an NFL player.

The assumption from Patriots teammates according to ESPNBoston.com’s Mike Reiss is that Faulk is headed for retirement.

“I just feel real bad for guys like Kevin, trying to go [off] into the sunset,” cornerback Kyle Arrington said.

It’s been an amazing run for Faulk. He is the last holdover from the Pete Carroll era with 13 years of experience. He forged a long career while only topping 100 carries in a season twice.

He may have been the best pure third down back of his generation and made countless big plays for the Patriots. Even the end of his career was quietly remarkable. How many 35-year-old running backs make it back from a torn ACL?

Faulk indicated during Super Bowl week that he plans to get into coaching on some level. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he landed back in Foxborough someday.
