Winning in playoffs is about who makes the fewest mistakes and who is hot at that time. who cares if you were 18-0 all season long?

Pat dont get into playoffs if Raven holds ontop TD catch, botched field goal by them etc.

SF does not win over Saints if last sec TD catch is dropped.

Dallas wins division if they dont ice their own kicker or Romo overthrows his receiver

Giants dont get past SF if Williams handles the ball.

Packers, well they were beat pretty soundly and had alot of chances to win.

One more thing though…
So in week 6 or 13 of any NFL season, someone asks you ‘who’s the best team in the NFL,’ you unequivocally answer “nope, can’t answer. no way to answer until the superbowl, and then that team is the best, no if’s ands or but’s about it. That’s the best team and there is no argument and until then, there is no best team. Blank. And I refuse to even speculate on who the best is.” Haha, becasue that’s how you’d have to be to not be able to understand what I’m saying about a team being arguably the best team. Those aren’t “so-called” favorites. They are just “favorites.”

And maybe we differ in how we define the “best.” To me, the best clearly means, reaching the top where you are branded as such, meaning, a champ. I don’t listen to prognosticators, as a matter of fact, I hate them. Or to ESPN, or FOX SPORTS, or even weather forecasters because most of the time they are wrong. So to me, if the Giants were to be picked to reach the Super Bowl at the beginning of a season, then I know as much, that that is more likely not to happen. To me, people telling me the team is the best is not as good as the team showing that they are the best. Yeah, to most, the so-called favorites did not make the Super Bowl because they lost their playoff games, but see, the Giants went and took care of what they had to, regardless of who they had to face, and that is a fact, not just this year but also back in 2007. And as much as people point out the breaks that the Giants supposedly got, I point out only two things that if a strong team does not overcome, they lose. The two breaks that lead to 14 points for Green Bay. A weaker team would not be able to overcome a 14 point deficit, especially to a dominant Packers team who dispatched of every team that they played throughout the season. But the Giants scored 14 and more. That is what separates the Giants from all of these so-called “best” or “favorites.” You can’t deny, when it counted the most, they delivered. It may not be to you but for me, that is the only way to describe what a “best” team should be!!!

Seriously, as much as I would love for the Giants to repeat next season, it really would be ok if they don’t because they’ve done pretty well in my lifetime.

But, it is ok, and really, I wish you can feel how we Giants fans feel.

I said they’ve been the “best team several times in the past ten years.” Meaning, at several times in the past 10 years, you could take a snapshot and validly consider the Eagles the favorite to win the superbowl. Many times 2001-2005. Would you agree, if you could take off the giants goggles? You would. they’ve had some “best” type teams in the last 10. Ask the Giants organization, they’ll tell you. But that was merely an anticdote to say it doesn’t matter if you’re the best team- you still need to catch the breaks.

Then, your saying that “a whole slew of teams can claim the same” that they were the best means nothing. I’m not into claiming. The Eagles are perenially a top tier NFL team that is almsot always in the Vegas top 10 odds for championship, and all giants fans know it, so what’s the deal lol?

You are champs! Why you gotta hate on someone calling spades spades about it being pretty amazing that you are considering the 7 loss season and what not. Heck, I’d be proud to be so lucky.

Then came the playoffs.

The Giants flat-out pounded atl. And they pounded GB too, in what was the most impressive game for them of the year. SF and NYG was a heavyweight slugfest down to the wire that any team could have won or lost at the bouce of a ball, and SF made the crucial errors to lose. New England was outmatched on paper, Brady made TWO mistakes, Eli made zero and was the battletested winner in the clutch (should he be lucky enough to be there ) player he has become, owning Brady, Pats, and the superbowl title.

That’s my take on the season for them. It’s a pretty common take, I’d bet, even from Giants fans.

We gave up 56 points against 4 top teams in the playoffs, i’ll take that kind of luck any day.

I am not denying that “luck” was a non-factor in, not just Giants game, but in all of sports. And if that is what you got from my reply then I stand corrected, but my point is to you and your hater counterparts who keep stating that the Giants got lucky winning each and every game they had to win. Seriously, we got lucky?

From those stating that Atlanta was just “being” their old selves, to those who kept harping on the so-called Bradshaw “non-fumble” call. The luck insinuation is just really tiring. I fail to see a string of luck that long that it carried into 6, count them, 6 straight games from the regular season to the Super Bowl.

Now, I’m sorry, and I do hate the Eagles, but with you’re, AGAIN, ASSumption that they have been the “best” team in the NFL in the last 10 years? Now that is ignorance, even if you say just a few years. Fact a whole slew of teams can claim the same. And, I don’t know, I think to be considered the best, you must beat the best, with much “luck” in your side, of course, during the season. The last time I checked, the Eagles went and came to one, read that ONE, Super Bowl the last ten years.

And this whole “ignorant to claim otherwise?” Dude, really? I know you are not casting stones, I know that!!!

Eh, I don’t really see it happening. With Dallas and Philadelphia primed to compete for the NFC East title, as well as the fact that the Giants have historically struggled to beat the Eagles over the past couple of years, I don’t see the Giants winning the East as long as everyone from Philly and/or Dallas stays healthy. They could still get in on the wild card, but in reality, had the Eagles beaten 1 of the mediocre teams they lost to (Seattle, Arizona, Chicago, I’ll even say Atlanta or SF as well because they had a 20pt lead on SF in the 3rd quarter), the Eagles would have been the East champs and the giants would have not made it into the playoffs at all.

IF ONLY…….all those “IF’S” were Superbowl Rings, the Eagles wouldn’t be such a joke of a team.

The Cowboys and Eagles always seem to “primed” for contention during the off season, but when it comes to showing up on Sunday it’s another story.

There are all sorts of lucky things that happened for the Gmen, and all superbowl champs, and none of them make any of the championships any less great. But denying the element of fortune in sports… not insinuating- but telling you point blank… is ignorant.

P.S: Did the giants masterful execution and prowess cause the eagles to blow all those games in the 4th quarter, when one less would’ve had the giants at home watching the playoffs?

I stopped reading after a while, but the 1st question, does this “luck” apply if the eagles were to win? A resounding Yes!!!! is the answer. I will feel like the luckiest fool on the planet if the eagles ever win. I will come on this board and agree with all the “they got lucky posts,” and then link them to a photo of me holding a paper mache lombardi trophy with “lucky me!” written on it.

And it’ll take just that for them to do it. Luck. Heck, they’ve been the “best” team in the NFL several times in the last 10yrs. Obviously we need a little luck.

Giants got lucky. And it’s ignorant to claim otherwise because it somehow makes you a “better superbowl champ” to have not needed luck. Dude, you won.

According to Bloomberg, the MGM Grand in Vegas lists the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers as the favorites for next year’s title, at 5-1 and 11-2 odds, respectively. The Giants, at 8-1 odds, are rated as the fifth likeliest team to win hoist the Lombardi Trophy, behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and NFC East division rival Philadelphia Eagles, both of which come in at 6-1.

Ne is the favorite or the 2nd choice to win 2013 SB, depending on which casino. GB is the other fav. Giants are 5th/6th choice, ave about 15:1.

New Orleans (which host the Super Bowl), Green Bay and NY Giants.

Andy “Fat Boy” Reid has proven he can’t win big games and is Mike Vick really going to win in big games. I doubt it.

Dallas and Romo have proven year in and year out they can’t win on the big stage and that defense is awful. They have one player, Ware that makes a difference.

Alex Smith isn’t the answer in San Fran.

Next year with expectations so high, probably 8-8 at best. More likely 6-10.

Don’t be a goob when you win. Accept your trophy graciously and be glad you are lucky enough to have it.
