Giants celebrate, Tisch jabs “Brady Bunch” and “America’s Team”

New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Victory Parade Getty Images

It was time to celebrate for the Giants and their fans today, at a ticker-tape parade in New York City and a rally at MetLife Stadium, where thousands of New Yorkers cheered, chanted “M.V.P.” for Eli Manning and generally enjoyed a Tuesday of playing hooky and basking in the reflected glory of their team.

Giants co-owner Steve Tisch took a couple of playful shots at Tom Brady and the Dallas Cowboys when he spoke at the stadium rally.

“Two nights ago over 111 million people saw the New York Giants cancel the Brady Bunch,” Tisch said.

“There’s a group down in Dallas who call themselves America’s Team,” Tisch added. “But these guys are America’s dream.”

The Giants weren’t the Dream Team heading into the season, but they’re where all 31 other teams want to be with the season now over.

The last 6 Super Bowls the Manning brothers have played in 4 and won 3. It’s good to be a Manning.

I’ve met Tisch. He’s a trip. And he likes to party. I saw him shut down the 40/40 in NYC. Doors closed, free drinks for all, nobody else gets in. Love that dude.

Tisch taking playful shots is sorta classless and seems like he is rubbing it in. I know he’s just having fun but it just sounds kind of arrogant to me. Especially when you hype yourself up to be a classy organization and have truly classy ppl like head coach Coughlin and players like Eli Manning leading you squad.

Tisch isn’t really the pure football guy of the two owners – he’s an oscar winning filmmaker by trade, he was just having a little fun.

Besides Brady and Belichick have had their butts kissed from the media for the last decade and quite frankly did not deserve to be crowned world champs this year, when all you beat was the likes of Tebow x 2, Sanchez x 2, Matt Moore, Chad Henne, Ryan Fitz x 2, Orlovsky, Grossman, VY, Tyler Palko, Tony ‘Choke’ Romo and Jason Campbell.

Whilst losing to Eli twice and Big Ben.

Had they had the Giants schedule, there’s no way they do any better than the 9-7 the Giants did. The Giants were much more battle tested and beat the best teams out there on the way to the Lombardi.

  18. cougar46 says: Feb 7, 2012 5:13 PM

You lucky the “Brady Bunch” weren’t playing their usual football, they would have killed your midgets, sorry Giants. Stop flapping your yap like a Rex Ryan and be gracious for the win.

Giants have been relevant since the beginning of the NFL. The Cowturds are the Johnny-Come-Lately team betweent the two. And the ONLY reason why the Cowboys are called “America’s Team” is because some pencil-necked marketing worm coined the term and then publicized the crap out of it. America has never claimed the Cowchips as their team…and never will.

Okay man, seriously. Take off the Blue Star colored glasses. When have the Cowboys really been relevant? I mean come on, one playoff win in the last how many years? Giants, actually despite your statement, are very relevant, considering the beat the Patriots, not once, but twice in what the last four years, to claim two Super Bowl titles. Now they are only one away from tying with Dallas and I personally wouldn’t be shocked if they do win again in the next three to four years.

What is that saying…about better to be seen as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt, something like that. I think that implies here man. Sorry, G-Men>Cowboys right now.

  29. cliffordc05 says: Feb 7, 2012 5:28 PM

Every year a team wins the Super Bowl and proclaims themselves as the next dynasty or the media proclaims them the next dynasty. The Giants don’t need any help from the media to be wrong.

I can remember plenty of people in the Patriots organization dumping on the Rams, Panthers and Eagles when they won back in the early part of last decade (so long ago now). That doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the insecurity complex that the New England sports fan base has collectively though. I guess that nearly a century of the New York Yankees dominating the Red Sox will do that to a fan base though.

    @bluepike …

So you’re standing for something? What? You think it’s okay for active players to gamble on NFL games. You think it’s okay for some players to commit crimes after they leave the league without being removed from the Hall of Fame, but other players should have their record erased for events that occurred 15 years after their retirement. And who decides which players should stay and which should be thrown out? Why you do, of course!

Honey, unlike you, I do stand for something, my position is consistent, and it has nothing to do with my own team. Both O.J. Simpson and Lawrence Taylor earned their place in the Hall of Fame on the football field. No one has the right to remove them or any player from the Hall for things they did after they retired. Future legal issues don’t magically erase past football accomplishments.

O.J. Simpson needs to remain in the Hall if for no other reason than to serve as a reminder of how the mighty can fall. If you don’t know how high a pedestal he was on and how really far he fell, you need to learn some football history.

Paul Hornung was a much more significant figure in football history than Alex Karras.

  60. bulldogslc says: Feb 7, 2012 10:13 PM

OMG, people…get a friggin’ sense of humor already! They were celebrating their Super Bowl victory and having fun. I say, good for him!

For years we’ve heard all the pundits in the football world salivating all over the “perfect” Brady and the Pats, America’s Team (and by the way, speaking of not being relevant in years…), and let’s not forget the Dream Team at the beginning of the season before they turned into a living nightmare. Meanwhile, the Giants got absolutely no respect from anyone until they beat Rodgers and the Pack in the playoffs (another team that’s always being hyped). Even then, the respect was given almost grudgingly. Then they beat the 49ers and headed for the Super Bowl where…wait for it…most of the “experts” picked the Brady Bunch to win because, well, it’s the PATS and BRADY and BELECHICK. How could they not win?

I’m not a fan of the Pats or the Giants, but c’mon. I don’t blame Tisch for having a little fun with his remarks and pretty much telling all the “experts” in the media to go take a flying leap.

  72. jimmytag says: Feb 8, 2012 5:53 AM

Let the guy make the dedicated fans laugh a little bit. Everyone in Giants Stadium seemed to enjoy it. By the way, “America’s Team” has only one ring more than the Giants.

  73. xmgmx says: Feb 8, 2012 7:12 AM

To Cowboys282 who clearly knows nothing about football the Giants have been in pro football since the 20’s, which i believe is longer than the cowboys!! Dallas won 1 championship as the Dallas Texans in 1962 and that was their 1st championship ever!! The cowboys lost the NFL championship in 1966 and 67! Both of which don’t really count b/c the merger hadn’t happened yet! They are 5 of 8 in super bowls! The Giants won their 1st championship in 1927 and won 3 more before super bowls started and going to 14 league championship games! So the Giants are 4 of 14 in title games before super bowls and 4 of 5 in super bowls! If you cant do math Giants won 8 titles in all going to 19 title games and the Cowgirls won 6 total going to 11!! In conclusion Americas team should be the Giants not the cowgirls, it’s not even close, no comparison, shut up if you don’t know what you’re talking about!!

What a moron! The Packers have been America’s Team for quite a while now. The Giants have a long ways to go to even come close to the class of the Green Bay Packers organization and team, just coming from what Tisch said. Packer fans reach more far and wide than Giants fans!

Big mouth for a guy who didn’t play in the game. Dallas is America’s team because they have been relevant for 40+ years unlike the Giants.

I look forward to hearing less from the loud mouths of New York now that the SuperBowl is over.

No one has referred to Dallas by that name consistently in over a decade.

I loved hearing these guys in person at both the parade and at Giants Stadium. It is good to be a Jints fan.

And Dammitjim30 Ive been all over this world and have seen giants jerseys as far as china, green bay jersey rarely make it out of wisconsin, just the few that make out of that hell hole and all the others are front runners! You threw brett under the bus, talk about classless, he brought that team back on the map and taught a rodgers everything he knows! There is class for you!
