Rams will interview 49ers’ Tom Gamble for G.M. position

The St. Louis Rams have identified the ninth candidate to interview for their vacant general manager position: San Francisco 49ers Director of Player Personnel Tom Gamble.

Gamble will be the last G.M. candidate to interview, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports, so a decision is apparently not far off.

The Rams have conducted an exhaustive search, with Gamble’s interview following interviews for George Paton, Joey Clinkscales, Lake Dawson, Brian Gaine, Ron Hill, Steve Keim, Les Snead and Ryan Grigson. Some candidates have already interviewed twice, and Grigson has already accepted the Colts’ G.M. position.

Gamble was hired by the 49ers in 2005 and has previously been a scout for the Colts, Ravens and Eagles, and a quality control coach for the Jets.

I have never heard of any of these guys, so instead of commenting, here’s a joke:

Grasshopper walks into a bar. Bartender says “Hey! We have a drink named after you!”.

Grasshopper says “you’ve got a drink named Larry?”.

I’ve never heard of any of these folks either but this could be the winner in the contest for coolest list of candidate names for a job. My personal vote is for George Paton (the ‘General’) but Clinkscales, Lake Dawson (Dawson’s Lake?), Snead, and now Gamble are all great alternatives. Go Rams!

“quality control coach for the Jets”

That’s a lot of interviews for a guy who won’t do anything but bring Jeff Fisher his coffee and mustache comb.

If the Bears didn’t interview him he can’t be worth the gamble….
