My Bad. I was off on the precise distinction – probably going off on old definition – and the Saints will undoubtedly use the Exclusive Rights Franchise designation thereby keeping Brees off the market.

Hurricane Katrina occurred at the end of August 2005. Your reference to the “barely 35k in the Dome,” would be of value if the Saints played in the Dome at the end of 2005. Most of New Orleans was empty and the people dispersed around the country. That Dec 4th games was played at LSU stadium in Baton Rouge.

So for the rest of the folks who seem to believe that there were no Saints fans prior to the SuperBowl year.

Relative to attendance… (pre-Katrina mid 60′s and post-Katrina low 70′s) fair for a bad team compared to a good team.

Hey genius, the Saints did not play in the Superdome in 2005. They played “home” games in New Jersey, San Antonio and Baton Rouge. A good portion of their fan base were either evacuated and trying to figure out if/how they were going to rebuild their homes or they were housing friends and neighbors. Football was the last thing on their minds. Oh, by the way, the team was also 3-13 that year.

The year following Katrina in 2006, after the Superdome was reopened, the Saints started a string of sellouts for the season to season ticket holders that has continued to this date.

The Saints have one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL. Too bad the facts don’t jive with your reality.

However depending on how the Peyton situation plays out really depends on where Brees’s value will be assessed.

Brees probably wants to be paid as one of the top 5 QBs in the league. Since the highest contract is in flux right now that has a really big bearing on his value. He would probably want it done now before the Peyton contract is gone which makes the highest 5 contracts lower, thus their average lower.

Its an ongoing thing with Brees, i didnt quote him cause, youre right, there is no quote in this story. But the team has other things to worry about more pressing. Plus, we all know he doesnt want to be franchised. Relax bud and realize its just my opinion, not an attack on you personally. But btw, what was the final score week 1 this year?
