I heard they're going to trade Brees for Tebow !!!! Yeah right, anyway, you can bet your house that Brees will be under center for the Saints this year. Brees is a straight shooter and if he thought the Saints were screwing around he would say so. More than likely they are trying to structure his contract so he can make the max and still not hurt the team's salary cap, which is probably a very difficult thing to do......

Only option that could be available is Washington. They have the cap room, and the money to pay for a Drew Brees.

New Orleans might be able to get Peyton Manning to play for the same team his old man did.

Both impossible to happen. Get it done Saints - you were one game short of a Super Bowl shot.

That's effing laughable right there. Just because no games were lost doesn't mean Brees had anything to do with it. In fact, his almost daily rhetoric in the media was more counterproductive than any of his fellow team reps.

@cowartsh "learn what the franchise tag means before you post"

"An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. Exclusive franchise players cannot negotiate with other teams.
A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position in the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation."

My Bad. I was off on the precise distinction - probably going off on old definition - and the Saints will undoubtedly use the Exclusive Rights Franchise designation thereby keeping Brees off the market.

No need to be obnoxious in the manner of pointing it out though.

Yea if you define sucks as being the MVP. congrats to yours for winning OPY.
Its an ongoing thing with Brees, i didnt quote him cause, youre right, there is no quote in this story. But the team has other things to worry about more pressing. Plus, we all know he doesnt want to be franchised. Relax bud and realize its just my opinion, not an attack on you personally. But btw, what was the final score week 1 this year?
------------------------------------------
Please stop talking about something you clearly know nothing about. You have no idea what the teams priorities are.
And did you really bring up week 1?
How bout your guy win a playoff game and not suck horibly during his chance (at home nontheless). Brees took care of business in a big way against Detroit and almost had the comeback of the century against SF until his defense let him down.
If your sick of him than too bad. He helped save the season with his involvement in the lockout as no games were lost. I believe most veterans would appreciate his work as they now have much better benefits once their playing days are over. Something Aaron was too cool to care about or fight for.
Take your smugness and ge out of here

Not really surprised…

This is the same owner that was about to move the team right before Katrina.

But most Saints fans don’t remember that. Because they weren’t around back then.

Don’t believe me? Check attendance records back at the end of 2005. Barely could put 35k in the Dome.

-------------------------------------------------

This is hilarious... though you have at least explained your logic to me (albeit flawed). Glad you were able to push away from the Madden controller to weigh in on real football matters but...

Hurricane Katrina occurred at the end of August 2005. Your reference to the "barely 35k in the Dome," would be of value if the Saints played in the Dome at the end of 2005. Most of New Orleans was empty and the people dispersed around the country. That Dec 4th games was played at LSU stadium in Baton Rouge.

So for the rest of the folks who seem to believe that there were no Saints fans prior to the SuperBowl year.

Relative to attendance... (pre-Katrina mid 60's and post-Katrina low 70's) fair for a bad team compared to a good team.

2009 70,105 SB
2010 70,038
2011 73,042 (more seats added to the Dome)

2002 67,850
2003 68,612
2004 64,147

Also, during the 1999 3-13 season 51,268 was the average attendance. Never believe that bags on heads meant that Saints fans didn't support their team with the normal ebb and flow of any other team (attendance down in bad years and up in good years). Kind of like most teams.

Don’t believe me? Check attendance records back at the end of 2005. Barely could put 35k in the Dome."

Hey genius, the Saints did not play in the Superdome in 2005. They played "home" games in New Jersey, San Antonio and Baton Rouge. A good portion of their fan base were either evacuated and trying to figure out if/how they were going to rebuild their homes or they were housing friends and neighbors. Football was the last thing on their minds. Oh, by the way, the team was also 3-13 that year.

The year before, in a "stelar" performance of 8-8, the team had 7 sell outs of 8 home game: http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/new-orleans-saints/results/2004

The year following Katrina in 2006, after the Superdome was reopened, the Saints started a string of sellouts for the season to season ticket holders that has continued to this date.

The Saints have one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL. Too bad the facts don't jive with your reality.

Why is this a surprise to anyone? Did we all forget Brees wanted to be exempt from the Franchise tag as part of the final terms of the CBA? He is looking for a Peyton+ deal - which is great, because either he'll get it and cripple the Saints for years to come or he won't, and the distraction and fan backlash against the organization will still cripple the franchise.

I believe this is entirely about the Peyton situation. Not because Condon is to busy with Peyton, personally Peyton probably only has Condon there to look over the contracts much like the OC.

However depending on how the Peyton situation plays out really depends on where Brees's value will be assessed.

Brees probably wants to be paid as one of the top 5 QBs in the league. Since the highest contract is in flux right now that has a really big bearing on his value. He would probably want it done now before the Peyton contract is gone which makes the highest 5 contracts lower, thus their average lower.

Not really surprised...

This is the same owner that was about to move the team right before Katrina.

But most Saints fans don't remember that. Because they weren't around back then.

Don't believe me? Check attendance records back at the end of 2005. Barely could put 35k in the Dome.

im getting sick of Brees already. he loves a courtroom atmosphere.

Nowhere in this article is Brees quoted as saying anything. This is all his agent talking.

Just another dumb comment from a fan of team who’s QB prob sucks.

Baffled?? Isn’t he like 35?? If I was an owner I’d have a simple rule with ANY QB. Once 35, you don’t resign him for HUGE money. And if you do, no more than 2 year’s….I’d be willing to give Bree’s a year deal tops. If not, I’d be looking to unload his 35 year old a$$ for some very high draft picks…
--------------------------------------------------
People tend to think Brees is older but he is only 33, AND already had his birthday this year (January 15th 1979).

The man brought NOLA its first Championship.

The man broke Marino's Record

The man holds the NFL Completeion % Record

Then man hold EVERY Franchise record.

Think before you type. Brees is Saint for LIFE

Not sure why everyone says the franchise tag is a GUARANTEE he is back. I believe under the franchise tag he can still sign with another team but it costs the other team a first round choice. As an Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag it would cost the other team 2 first round choices (has only happened I believe 1 time). No it is NOT LIKELY but if people say they are willing to give up 3 first round picks for a chance to draft unproven Andrew Luck or 2 to draft RG3 why would no one even consider giving up the picks to sign Drew Brees.
