Farrior and Foote are both going to be let go for sure. They total $5.8 in salary in 2012. But they still need to shed more cap. They need to fill the gaps left by those guys(I mean the steelers are deep but they aren’t so deep that they can replace all those guys with current players on the roster).

Draft picks will command maybe a total of 7 or 8 million in salary this year. Plus any free agency additions. So they have a long long way to go. It might be tough to be good right away, they will need their young guys to grow into starting roles.

Hoke retired so add that in. Hampton, Aaron Smith, Farrior, Batch, Dixon and Melwarde Moore are gone for sure that that eats up about $17 mill. If ward comes back he gets $1.5 instead of 4 mill…

Since these guys got cut and didn’t become free agents because their contracts ran out, they are eligible to be signed right away, right?

Thought I read that in of the Peyton articles.

If so, Kudos to the Steelers for letting these guys go early and get a jump on the process.

If the $149m figure as reported is correct, then they have a long way to go to squeeze into the ~$125m+2m number that’s estimated for next year’s cap (plus borrowing from future caps).

So basically, $3.5m down, $18.5m to go….
