Trent Cole has a point

The four teams in the NFC East have won 12 combined Super Bowls following the Giants’ win on Sunday. Of course, none of those 12 titles came from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Seeing another division rival come out on top again stings in Philadelphia.

“It’s hard [to see the Giants win again]. They’re too close to home. But you’ve got to give it to them,” defensive end Trent Cole said Tuesday via Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Trent Cole said Tuesday the Eagles were “inches” away from being a “dominant, dominant” team. He said teams are “going to be worried about playing us” in 2012.

This sounds like wishful thinking, but Cole has a point. Philly outscored their opponents by 68 points last year. (The Giants were outscored in the regular season.) Only two teams were in the top ten of scoring offense and defense: Houston and Philadelphia. Teams should be worried about Philly next year.

Those numbers speak to the fact that the Eagles underachieved last year. But the pieces are in place to be a contending team.

Of course, that will only make it more frustrating if Philadelphia watches another Super Bowl parade in other city next year.
