for those of you who are not well educated in the happenings of the national football league and believe the signing of chilly is a departure from notion that the browns are targeting RG3....

Chilly loves dual threat qbs as seen in Minnesota with jackson and webb.

But the most convincing fact is that Chilly developed a young Donovan McNabb in philly with none other than a Mr. Heckert at the helm as GM.

If you cant piece this together you shouldn't be allowed to browse the web

It's embarrassing to be a Vikings fan right now as their fan base really dropped the ball on wanting Childress rid from the program. He built the team up every year from a roster and success standpoint and was dismissed for all the wrong reasons. Even the Moss debacle as this ill-informed writes was handled incorrectly simply due to the fact that the Vikings don't have a hierarchy model in place to differentiate proper lines of authority. Childress was in charge of the roster, so I think it was in his bounds to dismiss Moss from the team for insubordination.
As far as the 12-men-in-the-huddle call ... if Favre simply kneels down, it's not outside the realm of possibilities that Longwell boots a winning 54-yard field goal in the Super Dome. And that's the worst case scenario. On the third down play, he could have rolled on his bell for 4 yards with the space the Saints defense was giving up. But instead it came down to Favre being the choker that his legacy became and he threw the inexcusible pick.
Chili will help out Shurmur and the Browns insurmountably and I expect he'll get a head coaching gig in due time and make the Vikings brass look even more foolish than they currently do.

As an independent football observer from the west coast, the browns are one of those teams who can surprise next year.

A couple studs drafted in the 1st round, coupled with Steinbach's return to solidify the line and a couple breaks this team could make a playoff run.

I picked the Giants to win the Super Bowl in Vegas back in October and broke the bank.

Believe me the Browns have a shot

@ shadowgm
I would be ALOT more worried about Pat Shurmur being the one to develop RGIII over Childress. Shurmur was brought in to call plays, help develop McCoy and lead the team. Colt went into regression, the play calling was really suspect all season and Shurmur blew at least two games with his indecision. He has a record of 16-48 as a Off. Coordinator/Headcoach in the last three seasons. If Shurmur cannot put seven wins or more on the board in 2012, he needs to go.

@ thee cleveland steamer
you better be getting an Andrew Luck quality type player if you are giving up Joe Thomas and a first rounder (4th pick overall) for a QB. Its the original first rounder that goes when you sign a franchised player.

"Is he going to have a young, good-kneed Adrian Peterson? How about Jared Allen? How about Brett Favre playing out of his spiteful mind? No? Well then I think I speak for the rest of the NFC North fanbases when I ask, if the Vikings can’t get their stadium situation figured out and if they move south or west, can we get the Browns to replace them?"

Here's a senario for you. Browns pick up Trent Richardson with a traded down draft pick. (Potential Peterson talent) Jabaal Sheard is showing signs of developing into Jared Allen talent. As the team with an insane amount of cap room pull in Peyton Manning. With the second 1st rounder of the Browns addressing our O line hole, and finally grabbing a good free agent WR.

The Browns really could be a few steps away from being a force to recon with

Born in Cleveland, live in Green Bay. Root for both the Packers and Browns.

This is a great hire. Any time you can get a former head coach as a coordinator I believe it can only make your team better. Huge knowledge base there with Chili.

Better times are ahead. I fully trust Holmgren to turn this around. He's done it twice, he knows what to do. That being said, he must know the QB position needs to be addressed. I don't see Colt McCoy as the answer, but apparently Mike does so i do trust that (you do see him as the answer right Mike??)

I would like to see them pursue Matt Flynn in the offseason and even draft another QB prospect that catches Holmgrens eye. Hopefully Mike is involved at some level in QB development - he clearly has a knack for it (Young, Favre, Hasselbeck).

WINNING = HIGH LEVEL QB PLAY in the NFL. PERIOD.

Pillage, plunder, steal, give away picks, WHATEVER it takes, we need a QB in Cleveland. We need to error to the side of too many. Hell, get Favre out of retirment, I don't care. Need an arm defenses respect. That would help the run obviously.

If GB franchises Flynn, hell, you give up Joe Thomas and a first rounder for him...whatever it takes, THE BROWNS NEED A QB that can create plays and make things happen.

coleman121280 says:

Look at the game in Chicago that year. I still firmly believe that the first half of that game was done Chilly’s way, and the 2nd half Favre said “screw it” and did it his way. the difference? Zero points in the 1st half, and 30 in the 2nd half. Good luck Cleveland, you’re gonna need it.
=================================

WORD! I’ve been saying that forever myself. It was obvious the first half was all chilly because if i’m correct we just came off the Carolina game where they were both going at it during all 4 quaters and this time around Favre wanted to show Chilly exactly what his offense looked like w/o the Legend killers audibles.

Then after that i’m sure Brett called a wrangler round table meeting in the locker room and said “Lets put the women and children to bed and go looking for f*&^in dinner”

That Sidney Rice catch on fourth down to tie it up and send it to over time is PRICELESS.
_______________

Remember Longwell missing the extra point earlier in the game? That Rice catch would have been the gamewinner rather than sending it to OT where they eventually lost. They win that game and they play New Orleans at home instead of on the road and they probably win that game. Then Chilly is a Super Bowl coach and he would still be here.

Great coach. No way. Bad? Hardly. Just because fans and media don't like a guy doesn't mean he can't coach the game of football. I guarantee Holmgren knows football and if he thinks a guy can coach then that is the end of it.

Great coach. No way. Bad? Hardly. Just because fans and media don’t like a guy doesn’t mean he can’t coach the game of football. I guarantee Holmgren knows football and if he thinks a guy can coach then that is the end of it.

Vikings fans will look back at the blunders negatively, but talk with the local high school football coaches about his character.

Most will tell you he takes lots of time to help them and runs "coaching camps" for the MN high school coaches all out of his pocket. He's a very charitable coach... and a valuable asset to the community.

Sure he made some mistakes, but he did have a large hand in turning the Vikings around.

=================================

WORD! I've been saying that forever myself. It was obvious the first half was all chilly because if i'm correct we just came off the Carolina game where they were both going at it during all 4 quaters and this time around Favre wanted to show Chilly exactly what his offense looked like w/o the Legend killers audibles.

Then after that i'm sure Brett called a wrangler round table meeting in the locker room and said "Lets put the women and children to bed and go looking for f*&^in dinner"

That Sidney Rice catch on fourth down to tie it up and send it to over time is PRICELESS.

Top tier OC?? based on what? He didn't call the plays in Philly, Andy Reid did. He had almost exclusive control in Minny and had to count on Favre's vendetta against Green Bay to give him a modicum of success during his tenure. Brad Childress has ZERO people skills and an ego the size of Mike Martz but with much less success to back it up. Cleveland will NOT have a kick a$$ offense under Chilly.

Highest paid player is a future HOFer who in a down year still made pro bowl in Joe t. I agree right side is awful but this is holgreen make or break year. Ravens will finish last in division mark my word that d is on its old last leg.

Childress is a moron, Cleveland can have him.

The Vikings got to the NFC championship IN SPITE of him, not because of him. He's stubborn, arrogant, and completely clueless when it comes to personnel. He is hell bent on making players fit HIS system, not making the most of a players talents and adjusting to use them. '09 was more about Favre playing out of his mind than anything else. Multiple times during the year you'd see the two of them arguing on the sidelines because of Chilly's insistence on following the plays and not wanting Favre to improvise. Look at the game in Chicago that year.
Mark my words...this will be a HUGE mistake. I love Holmgren for what he did in Green Bay (contrary to his ego, WITH the help and guidance of Ron Wolf), but he has a knack for ruining franchises when calling all the shots and makes questionable decisions on talent and coaching. This instance is another in a long line of stubborn decisions. Could be both a show of the hand in moving away from drafting "Robert of Griffin the Third", and towards RB Trent Richardson. Tarvaris Jackson's experience (and lack of production) in Minnesota is a crystal ball into not just RG's future under Childress, but a warning to anyone who drafts that dud high.

Please...please...please!!! I want to see some offense from the Browns. As a season ticket holder (until two seasons ago) I can't tell you how many games I went to simply hoping to see them score a touchdown.

Honestly, aside from a freak day by Anderson against the Bengals a few years ago, I have not witnessed a decent offense from the Browns since Bernie Kosar and the gang in 1986 or so. It's time to close the "Factory of Sadness" once and for all!

I will say this though- there is no better offense for the Colt McCoy skill set than the one he is going to run... if he can get the passes out ofcourse...
