Gronkowski undergoes ankle surgery

Lost in the discussion about Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski’s post-Super Bowl dancing: Gronkowski did everything possible to help his team before and during Super Bowl XLVI despite a serious ankle injury.

Gronkowski caught two passes for 26 yards while playing on a high ankle sprain that ultimately required surgery Friday morning.

Liz Mullen of the SportsBusiness Journal first reported that Gronkowski underwent surgery. Florio has confirmed the report and adds that Gronkowski is expected to be fully ready for the start of Organized Team Activities. The scope was done by Pats ankle specialist Dr. Theodore. PFT reported before the Pro Bowl that Gronkowski was likely to have surgery after the season.

The surgery was required because of ligament damage in Gronk’s ankle. It is expected to diminish Gronkowski’s ability to soy fiesta in the coming weeks.
