Niners elevate Gideon Yu

The addition of former Facebook and YouTube CFO Gideon Yu to the 49ers’ front office raised eyebrows last year.  Now, the eyeballs under those eyebrows will be popping out a bit.

Yu has been promoted to the position of president and co-owner of the franchise.

“Gideon brings us a truly unique set of experiences and talents, and he will be a guiding force in our drive to continue the winning tradition of this franchise,” said 49ers CEO Jed York.  “He’s both a visionary and the ‘go-to’ guy who can lead us through the enormous opportunities ahead such as, the stadium construction, expansion of our brand and its businesses, and positioning the franchise for the future.  We have more to do now than ever before, and Gideon is the right person to get the job done.”

“My whole career has led to this point,” Yu said.  “My job here is the perfect mix of my passions for football, entrepreneurship, business management and technology.  Being at my favorite team in my favorite sport is a dream come true.  We all look forward to winning with class both on and off the football field.”

Yu will be responsible for all business operations, and G.M. Trent Baalke will handle all football operations.

The “co-owner” title means either that Yu coughed up a chunk of his tech money to York, or that Yu has received a slice of equity as compensation for past or future services.

Interesting. Does a co-owner have to get approval from the other owners (such as when a new owner buys a team)?

It was the first one. I forget how much, but it was enough for York to give him a very visible role. Seems like the 9ers are out in front again innovating instead of playing catch up. Lots of great things happening with this franchise and I look forward to many more.

It’s Super Bowl or bust time again fellas!

    I read he was a 1% owner.

Gideon Yu is a 1% owner with a future option to buy up to 5% of the team.

The move was approved the same day the NFL approved the $200 Million loan for the Stadium in Santa Clara.

…and BTW….the Co-Owner part isn’t news. That happened a few weeks ago. The “President” title is the only new part.

1%? Something else must be cooking behind the scenes…

A Pakistani owner in Jacksonville and a Korean owner in San Francisco, talk about a sign of the times.

What decade do you live in up there?

Getting a billionaire 49ers fan to buy into the team and make him team president? Sounds like a dumb move. <——- sarcasm

OK, I’ll appease the ignorant, what the hell.

Tell me, what type of names did ALL the NFL owners have until these two came along?

    Think hard now.

By the way, I wasn’t saying that there’s anything wrong with minorities becoming owners, I was simply saying that it is a sign of the times, both in the NFL and everywhere else.

    Aren’t you a raiders fan? Yeah…shut up.

One can only assume that raiderredleg will be calling for their inclusion in the HOF given his stance on minority status being a valid asset for enshrinement in Canton.

For the price of 1% you get a smart ass dude in there that will work his ass of to make the franchise better than it already is. Its a great way for him to say MY team and treat it like it is HIS! I dont own a part but I pay his salary as a 13yo Season Tix holder that approves the move!

    NINERS!!!

As Robin Williams put hilariously, “Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party.”
