Nearly a month after hiring a head coach, the Rams are close to hiring a G.M.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the process has settled on two finalists: Vikings director of player personnel George Paton and Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead.

Per Thomas, a long list of other candidates have been told that they won’t get the job: Titans V.P. of player personnel Lake Dawson, Jets V.P. of college scouting Joey Clinkscales, Dolphins director of player personnel Brian Gaine, 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, NFL V.P. of football operations Ron Hill, and Cardinals director of player personnel Steve Keim.

Colts G.M. Ryan Grigson also was interviewed for the Rams’ position, before getting the job in Indy.

Several days ago, Steelers director of business and administration Omar Khan emerged as a candidate. But while, as Thomas reports, the Steelers have given Khan permission to interview, an interview apparently won’t happen.

Though the specific responsibilities of coach and G.M. haven’t been delineated, it’s widely believed that coach Jeff Fisher will be calling the shots.
