Johnny Lynn lands in Oakland a month after firing in Philadelphia

J. Lynnphi AP

Although most Eagles fans were hoping it would be Juan Castillo, cornerbacks coach Johnny Lynn was the assistant who took the fall for Philadelphia’s disappointing defense in 2011. Now, a month later, Lynn has landed in Oakland.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that that Lynn will join the Raiders as a defensive backs coach. Prior to joining the Eagles’ staff Lynn had previously been a secondary coach in San Francisco, Baltimore and Tampa Bay and spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Giants.

Also joining Dennis Allen’s staff in Oakland will be Mark Hutson, who spent the last five seasons as Tulane’s offensive line coach and was the school’s interim head coach at the end of last season. Hutson was an All-American offensive lineman for the Oklahoma Sooners and has spent 22 years as a college coach, including a couple of seasons on the same Tulsa staff as Allen. This will be Hutson’s first NFL job.

Former Rams defensive backs coach Clayton Lopez may also join the Raiders’ staff. If he does it will be his second time on the job; he coached the Raiders’ defensive backs in 2004 and 2005.

Hey now. The intelligent eagles fans (I admit there aren’t a ton) want Castillo to stay. Only the fools wanted him gone. The same fools that call for Reid’s head. Us smart fans realized that no one ever accumulated the sacks that Babin did under Jim Johnson. And the offense didn’t do the defense any favors either with the constant turnovers during September and October. Let’s not get into the lack of an offseason either. Finally, all 3 times Andy has missed the playoffs in 12 years he bounces back to win division and 2 of 3 times gets to NFC Championship game. #InAndyITrust

seems like above above average hire with Lynn & Lopez…know that Hutson had horrific Tulsa teams….interesting that former Raider coaches coming back now.

i think Johnny Lynn bounced around a few teams…D.A. will be controlling most of the calls, and his specialty was the secondary, so i’m not concerned at all…

would have been an easier job if Oakland didnt dump their best corner.

If Routt was on your team, you’d feel the same way that 99% of all Raider fans feel right now: ecstatic.

Routt was a walking defensive pass interference penalty. Sometimes he liked to spice things up with the occasional defensive holding penalty, just to let us Raiders fan know that he was still out on the field. So, what I would like to know is, how are the Raiders better off with keeping 17 pass interference penalties on the roster?

Are we becoming a Tampa 2 defense?

You have a”wide 9″ IQ if you are seriously trying to defend that defense. So what if Babin had a career year. What about the other 10 guys? Castillo’s scheme had guys playing way out of position (Nhamdi comes to mind)

Where is Rod Woodson ? Lynn ? I remember Philly backs confused and giving up plenty of big plays.

how are all these coachs connected to the head coach? Through 49ers?

Anyway its going to be interesting. I am a die hard raider fan and I am ready to see what these changes will produce. I would have liked Routt to stay but he would argue constantly with the other backs in the game Then he would have a holding penalty. I think a big tall strong defensive backs and safeties. I like seattle’s formula, big physical defensive backs.

No hire for hue Jackson yet? Maybe people knew something we didn’t?

Another high caliber pick up from the Raiders. The rest of the AFC West is loving how this team is coming together, or should I say falling apart. LMAO!

Actually, the rest of the AFC West is wondering when Denver is going to get themselves a quarterback and start running a pro offense.

I like what is going on in Oakland, would not be surprised if Routt resigns as well, that is unless another teams wants to pay him big bucks.
