Mularkey says he assembled an unbelievably great coaching staff

M. Mularkey

New Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey has put together his coaching staff, and he’s not shy about saying he scored with the new crop of nearly two dozen assistants in Jacksonville.

“I think it’s going to work here. I really think it’s going to work now that I have this staff together,” Mularkey told Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union. “This is an unbelievable bunch of people I hired. Great people, great coaches.”

Mularkey’s confidence is sufficient that he doesn’t see any reason the Jaguars can’t be contenders this year.

“I think every year you’ve got a chance,” Mularkey said. “A lot of things have to happen. You’ve got to stay healthy and you need some luck as well.”

If the Jaguars are contenders this year, after four straight seasons without a winning record, Mularkey will be a coach of the year candidate. He’s at least confident that he did a good job with his first task, putting together a staff.
