Wayne has played 16 games in 10 of 11 seasons (13 in the other), Jackson in 4 of 7 (5,8,15 in the others).

In his lone season without Peyton Manning, Wayne averaged 60.0 yds/gm, 12.8 yds/rec, and he had 75 rec for 960 yds with 4 TD's. Jackson only averaged over that in 3 of 7 seasons. I have a hard time with anyone who doesn't say (at this point) that Wayne > Jackson.

Wayne was never a true deep threat. Runs great routes, which helps him get open deep, but he is not a pure speed guy. Plus, he can't go up and get it like Moss can. Great player, hope he remains a Colt, but I don't know that he is a 'best fit' for the Patricia's.

BB did draft Mayo, Gronk, Solder, Hernandez. No one bats 1000 in the draft. Would you rather the Pats last 4 drafts or the Colts who have jack to show for it?

I wouldn't mind Wayne in Foxboro for the right price, but I'd prefer a younger, faster, bigger guy for the long term. With Welker, Branch, Lloyd, Gronk, Hernandez you already have a good base. They don't need to go crazy on offense. If Gronk was healthy, that would have been a different SB. That's not sour grapes, but fact.

Let's look for a good option at WR, but build up that defense for the eventual injury attrition that kills them annually.

Why don’t the Pats draft some young WRs instead of bringing in another guy in the twilight of his career? Brady only has a few more years ya know…

?? lol

Do people even think before they write? So according to you: Tom Brady only has a few years left, so they should draft a couple of young wide receivers that at best would be productive in year 2 or 3 instead of signing one of the the best recievers in the game who thrives in the 'line of scrimmage' no huddle complex passing game the Patriots practice?

At the right price, I think it would make sense for the Patriots, but I'm not really sure Wayne is what they need, so spending too much on him doesn't make sense to me. They need a guy to take the top off of a defense, to allow their seam guys and their under-neath/intermediate guys to work. They simply don't have that deep threat, and while Wayne can still get downfield, Father Time catches up with guys quicker than expected for a guy at Wayne's age. I gotta think Wayne could get a decent-good contract on the open market (makes sense in, say, Chicago, with Knox out and needing a steady hand for Cutler. Wherever Peyton lands should also be considered a possible spot. The 49ers seem like a good fit as well, as a leader for Crabtree/Morgan and Co.

If the Pats get Reggie, it won't be as the speed-burner on the outside, it would be as a replacement for Deion Branch... probably not happening.

Also, goforhanddie and others... isn't it funny how so many free agents want to play in crappy Foxboro, for a little less money, with the Pats??

I'm not sure how that could be possible if Belichick were known among players to be as "classless" and as much of a "jerk" as many of you say he is. Truly a riddle...

"redrew says: Feb 12, 2012 5:42 PM

Rumors that Belichick wants to trade for Jonathan Stewart…filling the Corey Dillon void. Big back with actual pass catching skills. Carolina wants one of the Pats 1sts…..but with only one year left on his contract….probably a 2nd plus sweetener. Stewart would fit the three down back roll forcing LBs to stay close to the LOS, freeing up their TEs even more. Add a pro like Wayne, along with a resigned Welker……Belichick will be back to running it up"

No way Panthers will give up Stewart for the 2nd to last pick in the first round. Plus Stewart is completely happy sharing his work load with williams as it will make his career make twice as longer. Take it from me this trade will NOT happen

I know Reggie Wayne is considered to be an "elite" receiver and everyone says that what the Patriots need. But he will not improve our receiving core. We need a big and physical outside receiver and we need a burner. The best receiver for the Pats to target would be Vincent Jackson. He can beat the press and is a very good athlete for his size. I also believe that the Pats should target the other Colts receiver Pierre Garcon who is a big time burner and just knows how to play the game. Its about time for the Pats to get some athletic talent on the outside.

Of course, Wayne does fit into the BB mold of "annual reclamation project."

bsizemore,

Do you really think any WR wants to have Matt Moore or Matt Flynn throwing to them instead of Brady?

Child Please ! The best thing that can happen to Dolphin fans would be for Ross and his minority partners that think f(u) tboll is a round ball to sell the team !

Reggie Wayne? Brandon Lloyd? Are you people serious? You already have no speed or explosiveness on the outside as it is. You sign the both of them, and you'd officially have the slowest receiver tandem in football, and team full of possession receivers whose fastest athlete is a tight end.
