That says a lot for the people of Maryland. I have visited there many times and have always enjoyed rapport with the local sports fans. Once you get outside of DC the people are extremely nice and cordial. You know as opposed to the Boston and Philly sports fans.

Cundiff bounced around the NFL, spending four seasons with Dallas and one with New Orleans before finding himself out of the game in 2007.

But Cleveland lured him back to the game in 2009, and he finally found a permanent home when Baltimore signed him in November 2009 after the Browns waived him.

Wow who would have guessed that ravens fans have more class then Niners fans?

No death threats to Billy gald to see the folks in the northeast understand team and that it is just a game.

As a Giants fan I am happy he missed as I did not want to see the Raven’s in SB I was sure that the Giants would be able to beat the pats not sure about the Ravens

So funny how everyone keep talking about the Welker drop…but nary a word is said about the drop by Lee Evans. Two hands wrapped around the ball, and he can’t finish the play. Much more egregious than the Welker drop.

That loss is not on his head. Even if he makes the field goal it just puts the game into OT. There were no guarantees that the Ravens would have won from there.

Really, and how would you know? No offense, but how many field goals have you attempted in the waning seconds of an AFC championship game? Is it just not too easy to say something like that from behind your computer screen? Just saying!

I definitely understand the idea behind, “no one player loses the game.” If Lee Evans makes that catch… If John Harbuagh calls that time out… If one of the other receivers makes a play to extend one of Baltimore’s other drives….

But with that said, Cundiff had the ball on his foot to send them to the Super Bowl and he shanked it. Lee Evans had the ball in his hands to send them to the Super Bowl and he couldn’t hang on. While there maybe a host of reasons that the Ravens didn’t win the game, those are the reasons they lost it.

If there was no Lee Evans drop, Cundiff would be taking a lot more heat……….But it’s true, they had multiple opportunities to win, but it’s always the last one that sticks in everyone’s mind……….Like the Welker drop in the Super Bowl- If Brady hits Branch accurately, the Welker drop never happens. There’s a zillion of those every week.

Why throw the guy under the bus, when you win or lose as a team. That being said I don’t see him or Evans being on next years roster. They have to improve in those areas with new guys. What kicker has missed a big kick like that a had longveity with the same team? None. The team moves on……….

When it happened I was shocked and stunned. I turned of the TV in disbelief.

However, anybody who ever played the game knows that sometimes things happen that defy logic. Cundiff makes that kick 99% of the time. It was just unfortunate the missed FG happened when it did.

I am sure he feels bad enough for the miss. There is no reason to pile it on. In the end, it’s only a game. He most-likely will get the opportunity to redeem himself next season.

I’m a Pats fan and was very impressed with the way the Ravens players handled that game afterwards. Good job. Even the Ravens fans who came to the Pats board I go to were terrific.

Glad no one is harassing the PK either. One of the most irritating things people can do is to blame a loss or credit a win to SOLELY one player or play. That’s just not reality and never will be in a team sport that has 60 minutes to play like football.

Finally, a team and fan base with some perspective. Cundiff should have absolutely made that kick. That’s why you get paid the big bucks. But Evans had the Super Bowl literally ripped out of his hands by a practice squad scrub seconds earlier. The clock was horribly mismanaged by the coaching staff. Flacco threw an ugly pick towards the end of the 4th quarter. There was plenty of blame to go around. Everyone in the locker room knows it, and it is good to see that some fans do, too.

Ike Taylor and Billy Cundiff both had bad playoff games and the fans did the classy thing by NOT sending death threats.

Mistakes happen and smart fans know it. If it keeps happening, then obviously the guy has to get cut or lose his starting position.

But one play shouldn’t decide that.

Hardly the most devastating loss for the Ravens organization in the playoffs.

How about the Red Right 88 call against the Raiders in the early 80′s when all they needed was a FG?…or “The Drive” against John Elway in 1986?…or when the Broncos kicker, in that same game, allegedly missed the winning kick but had it counted?…or when Byner lost the ball just before strolling across the goal line the following year? THOSE were devastating Ravens losses. ; )

i still think the Ravens should be considering an alternative… i’ll bet Billy Cundiff does better in practice than Shayne Graham or others, that’s why he’s got the job. but we’ve seen he is quite prone to buckling under pressure..how about using a 3rd round draft pick on a kicker?…
