Only some of you will appreciate this but the hilarity of these comments is funny. Beginning/middle of the season, every post had at least three comments being Goodell begging to get him out of the NFL. Roddy White makes a comment and now the comments are ain akin to "Goodell does a pretty damn good job".

I'm a Falcon fan and even I know that Roddy needs to keep his mouth shut sometimes but really guys, you're gonna defend Goodell after basically bashing him all season cause a WR made a comment?

“At some point, the players forgot that they are simply interchangeable parts in a extremely well designed business. Roddy White does not even realize that guys like Rodger Goddell made it possible for him to be Roddy White.”

That comment reflects the useful idiot mentality by those who serve the rich and powerful. Again, White must’ve missed the part where he serves and the owners rake it in. After all, without the owners there would be no league. Those interchangeable parts like Joe Montana are completely interchangeable…yeah, right!
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
I guess I missed where the 49ers ceased to exist as a team let alone played winning football after they traded Montana. I guess I haven't heard about the trend of fans deserting their longtime teams when they trade or release one of their great players? Oh wait....
Point being, most of us root for laundry, though we have our favorite players.

What's really hurting the way football is played is the Competition Committee's pro offense bent (and the owners' approval of it) along with some of the CBA imposed restrictions on how coaches can run their practices. All Goodell does is put forth the wishes of the owners. I dislike his public persona, the way he handles a lot of stuff in the media, and think the NFL could do with a more charismatic speaker but regardless of who has this job, they are all going to be owners' reps.

I admit I am looking forward to hearing how White handles it if someone talks publicly about HIS money. :P

Let's not confuse Goodell with an owner; he was an intern that rose up the corporate ranks. He's the spokesperson for the owners. Goodell is an employee just like Roddy White. He makes no real decisions; he just relays what the owners want. There's little credit due to him for not screwing up the NFL cash machine in six years at the job.

Goodell doesn't drive the NFL bus. He's more like the bumper sticker in front. I think $20M per year is high for his role (pure overhead).

Good for Goodell that he was able to land such a cushy, well paying job. However, I think you'd have little trouble finding someone that can do just as good, if not better, a job as Roger.

On the other hand, Roddy White should be mad at De Smith for agreeing to such a weak CBA. This past summer, the NFLPA had its chance to change pay scales, but the players were more focused on not missing a game check.

Believe me, I've been an NFL fan for a long time. I've seen a lot of the most historic plays as they happened. Never would I have ever dreamed that one day I would come to a point where I would lose interest in a sport that has been a core part of my entire existence.

Today, sadly, I do recognize that I am, little by little, losing interest. Roger Goodell's NFL is the reason, without a doubt.

Yes, he is doing an excellent job as commisioner.

Why is everyone trashing Roddy White? If you can’t find why White is upset about the salary Roger Goodell makes you’re being insensitive. Imaging being in White’s place. You’re busting your hump day-in and day-out and you’re trying to stay healthy and cash out as much as you can before it’s over. Meanwhile, Goodell sits in his nicely-decorated office and lets the workers do everything while he gets paid. I know Goodell does a lot in regards to behind the scenes but it’s hard not to understand what White is saying. Replace the NFL withs scabs and I bet you the NFL revenue goes down. And, replace Goodell with someone else and I bet you the NFL doesn’t skip a beat.

-----------------------------

So true, because the players go out there and negotiate the $Billion contracts with the television networks, sporting good companies, electronic game makers and other avenues that make the player's percentage of the pie still reach into the billion-dollar range - for a GAME. I love the game, and am glad it is where it is. But, take away the league front office and its commissioner and you have a bunch of overgrown college kids playing a game in local stadiums for $20k per year and a local following (at best). I can forgive the kid for not understanding how important the business side of the operation is. But he should really stop and think before he opens up his mouth and says such ignorant things. As they say: "It is better to remain silent and be accused of being stupid then to open your mouth and prove it so..." A comment really worthy of Terrell Suggs!

I really don’t have a problem with what God dell makes. I have a problem with those who tell Matt Forte, Ray Rice, Fred Jackson Desean Jackson and Chris Johnson to shut up and be happy you’re making 600k yet out the other side of your mouth you’re saying God dell should make 20 mill, and it’s ok for sportscasters and those affiliated with the NFL to make millions. Somethings not right. This is “Selective Capitalism”. What is it that you really believe in? Socialism, Capitalism, some type of quasi feudalism or is this really about your petty bias?

—————–

If rookies don’t want to sign the contract then they don’t have to. They can go to the CFL. The league took a chance on Chris Johnson by giving him a 600k per year job. That’s a lot of money and he was expected to perform. Since he did, he got paid. It’s how business works. The league took the risk to start.

You missed my point. The point was not that Johnson got paid. The point was he performed well (3 pro bowls in first 3 years) and wanted to be fairly compensated. The same people who are saying God dell deserved to be paid 20 mill are the same people who said Johnson did not deserve to be paid. The blatant hypocrisy is an eye opener.

after reading some of the posts on this subject its abundantly clear that some of the people here just post stuff without thinking rationally about what it is they want to say. White is absolutely right while Goodell manages the day to day operations of the league( if you want to call fining players) managing then so be it but the players are who the fans pay to see, its the players jerseys who the fans buy and where not Roger Goodells. when the whole strike thing happened last yr the owners said they didnt want to pay the players a certain percentage obviously because they are greedy and dont feel the players are justified in making the salaries that they make. well to put things in perspective for the casual fan there are only maybe 5 or 6 players per team who make the big salaries while the majority of the players make less than the head coach. Roger Goodell made a very superficial gesture by agreeing to get paid 1 dollar until the strike had ended. ( I guess that was to give the fans the illusion that the owners were really hurting) watch my eyes roll!! Roger Goodell is nothing more than a puppet hired by the owners to take money from the players and keep it to themselves so they can live lavish lifestyles. I say let the players get every dime due them for this simple reason. there is ALWAYS going to be football there will be plenty of revenue to go around. soon enough they will expand the season from 16 to 18 gms and already have a 10 yr contract in place so its not going away anytime soon. as for Goddells outlandish salary just because you got a title doesnt mean you are entitled to be paid a ridiculous salary especially considering the league practically runs itself.

“The players only make a few dollars”!!!!!
======
They get paid millions for playing a GAME for cryin’ out tears. Firemen, the military, and construction workers get hurt more and they don’t have millions to put in the bank to help them cope with the rest of their lives.

I’m so happy only a few of the responses were as ridiculous as Roddy White’s original statement.

Wait a minute! You say what Roddy White said is ridiculous but then turn around and complain about the players salary? What exactly are you saying? It's ok for God dell to make 20 mill but not ok for the players to make a few mill? And, what does the pay of a fireman, policeman ect... have to do with football players? Absolutely nothing. What about the singers, entertainer and newscasters who make millions. Do you also have a problem with their pay or is it just football players?

It's called Capitalism. In a capitalist society the prices of goods, services and labor are determined by supply and demand. How many people if trained could perform on a football field as well as NFL players? Exactly, that's why they're paid millions. Get over it! No one wants to see you play. Not even for free.

"At some point, the players forgot that they are simply interchangeable parts in a extremely well designed business. Roddy White does not even realize that guys like Rodger Goddell made it possible for him to be Roddy White."

That comment reflects the useful idiot mentality by those who serve the rich and powerful. Again, White must've missed the part where he serves and the owners rake it in. After all, without the owners there would be no league. Those interchangeable parts like Joe Montana are completely interchangeable...yeah, right!

@spinmovr : your right, part of his job is to function as the attack dog of the owners, their agent if you will - or their legal counsel. What % do you think 20 million is from 9 billion?

It is less than 1%. How much does the average player agent make? I would assume more than that.

If he were to make 1% of just the salary caps for all of the teams, then he would be making alot more than he is, again what % do agents make?

Do I think players are over paid, sure, however they are playing what can (and is) considered a dangerous sport, they are the select few that have the skill set, so bully for them that they get what they can.

However it is kinda hypocritical for them to commiserate with the fans when during the lockout when alot of the players were talking about how the fans weren't like them and couldn't compare themselves to the players.

Not to mention, he isn't commiserating with the fans as much as trying to rail on Goodell just like alot of other fans and players.

Say what you want, but Goodell does his job well. We may not like some of the things that happen but it isn't all him.
The whole killing the game thing, that is the players both now and past complaining about health problems, that is what caused the lockdown on hitting.
The players getting arrested for stupid things and failing drug tests, as well as being all around tools, that is what caused the behavior policies.

Funny thing about the discipline is that he isn't the one doling it out anymore, it is former players.

Oh well, he just oversees it all and makes sure that the owners are happy. Just like a good agent is supposed to. He earns his millions.

-----------------

If rookies don't want to sign the contract then they don't have to. They can go to the CFL. The league took a chance on Chris Johnson by giving him a 600k per year job. That's a lot of money and he was expected to perform. Since he did, he got paid. It's how business works. The league took the risk to start.
