Chad Jones, the safety who was drafted by the Giants in April of 2010 then nearly lost his leg in a car crash two months later, is finally getting close to returning to the field.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that Jones plans to be there when the Giants’ offseason workout program begins on April 16.
Jones still hasn’t been cleared medically to return to the playing field, so it’s premature to say he’ll be ready to go in two months. But he’s been working hard in rehabilitation and said last fall that he was running the 40-yard dash in times as fast as 4.84 seconds.
If Jones is able to come all the way back from his devastating leg injuries to get cleared to play, that would be an impressive recovery. If he actually gets on the field for the Giants, that would be amazing.

I saw a resent interview with him, he said he was at 80% and will be 100% no later than August 2012.
Would it be wrong if they roomed him with Mark Herzlich?
MDS, does he get a ring for this year?
Welcome back, Dreadlocks of Doom! Geaux Chad.
@dbones750
Everyone that’s on the active roster, practice squad, or injured reserve gets a ring. He’s been under contract with the team since the season he was drafted so he should.
There’s a reason Jones won a National Championship in both football and baseball during his time at LSU. He’s got a deadly combination of strength and speed. Hopefully he’ll be successful returning from his injury!
He probably doesn’t get a ring as he was not on the roster. He was waived/injured after the injury I believe, and is technically free to sign with anyone. However, he said he wants to make it back with the Giants since they’ve done nothing but be supportive, including letting him keep his signing bonus.
This is just really nice to see.
Lets go Chad! Giants fans are behind you all the way. Can’t wait to see you on the field and cheer for you man.
You geaux, Chad!
Didn’t I see something today from Ch 4 in NO that he signed a 2y extension with the Jints?
Damn, gotta respect this guy.
Props to him for even trying to get back.
I’ll be up in Albany for training camp to see what he’s got. Rooting for him.

he wouldn’t be allowed to participate in the team programs this spring if he wasn’t under contract with the team. the linked article (written today) mentions that he is under contract with the giants through the 2013 season. it doesn’t say anything about him getting or not getting a ring, though.
He gets a ring. Just as Bruce Johnson (who was at the parade and rally at Giants Stadium), who was injured and CUT from the team.
