Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be at next week’s Combine, but he won’t participate in on-field drills because he’s recovering from foot surgery.
The consensus No. 3 quarterback in this draft is aiming towards a late-March pro day.
“We’ll come back [from the Combine] and push it pretty hard,’’ Tannehill told ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas. “I’m thinking I should be getting close to 100 percent by right after the combine and we’ll really jump into the on-field stuff then to make up for the time I missed and get ready for pro day.’’
Tannehill recently got out of his walking boot after having a screw placed in his foot three weeks ago. He’s working out at IMG with resident quarterback guru Chris Weinke, who tutored Cam Newton last year.
This is yet another year where there are more quarterback-starving teams than top-tier quarterback prospects. That could result in Tannehill getting taken surprisingly early, like Jake Locker and Christian Ponder last year.
Tannehill’s college coach Mike Sherman is now the coordinator in Miami, who holds a top ten pick. We’ve heard they need a quarterback.
