Tannehill out of walking boot, looks towards March pro day

Ryan Tannehill AP

Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be at next week’s Combine, but he won’t participate in on-field drills because he’s recovering from foot surgery.

The consensus No. 3 quarterback in this draft is aiming towards a late-March pro day.

“We’ll come back [from the Combine] and push it pretty hard,’’ Tannehill told ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas. “I’m thinking I should be getting close to 100 percent by right after the combine and we’ll really jump into the on-field stuff then to make up for the time I missed and get ready for pro day.’’

Tannehill recently got out of his walking boot after having a screw placed in his foot three weeks ago. He’s working out at IMG with resident quarterback guru Chris Weinke, who tutored Cam Newton last year.

This is yet another year where there are more quarterback-starving teams than top-tier quarterback prospects. That could result in Tannehill getting taken surprisingly early, like Jake Locker and Christian Ponder last year.

Tannehill’s college coach Mike Sherman is now the coordinator in Miami, who holds a top ten pick. We’ve heard they need a quarterback.

I hope the Dolphins Coaches & Ireland go after the right QB for once, stay away from Manning (already went down the road once with Cullpepper/Brees)
with there Inside knowledge of Matt Flynn & Ryan Tannehill. I hope they get the right one and end on long QB drought. that’s not to much to ask? is it?

The problem with Tannehill going to Miami is that the draft is is in late April, well after free agency starts. And I think Miami is Matt Flynn’s first choice once free agency starts.

I don’t see Miami carrying both QBs on their roster.

Gregg Rosenthal’s Mike Sherman speculation is rather intriguing. Still, as Pete Carroll demonstrated, selecting the field general who commanded your attack on the college level isn’t always a given.

Roll out QB. I hear there is a coach in Washington who likes that play style.

QB guru Chris Weinke? Can’t be the same Weinke I saw “play” in the NFL for those precious few weeks.

Why do so many people like Tannehill?

I mean watch his tape, then look at his statistics, Nick Foles is statistically better, has more experience, and makes more of the plays with less talent.

Weinke may have not been a great QB, but doesn’t mean he can’t be a good mentor/coach

“We’ve heard they need a quarterback.”

I, too, have heard this about Miami. Think they’re willing to spend a second round pick on the guy?
