APRandy Moss wants back in the NFL, but one longtime NFL personnel man says Moss simply doesn’t have it anymore.
Bill Polian, who was fired last month as president of the Colts, said he doesn’t think Moss could still do it in 2010 at age 33, let alone in 2012 at age 35.
“It was pretty clear he had lost a fair amount of speed and flexibility,” Polian told Alex Marvez of Sirius XM NFL Radio and FOXSports.com. “He was not the same player he was three or four years earlier during his heyday in New England. Since his repertoire of routes was always limited – he was essentially a deep receiver his entire career – losing a step can really hurt your effectiveness.”
Moss claims he can still run a 40-yard dash in about 4.35 seconds, but it sure didn’t look like he was that fast in his limited action with the Titans at the end of the 2010 season.
“I just view it as a guy who was a great player, who obviously had some baggage throughout his career but had a nice run at New England, who sort of reached the end as every player does,” Polian said. “Nobody, no matter how great they are, defeats Father Time. I just felt like Randy was in that category. For his sake, I hope he makes it back. But to me, he didn’t look like a top-echelon player in Tennessee.”
Considering the way Moss played in 2010 and the fact that he didn’t play at all in 2011, it’s easy to think Polian has a good point. Then again, people also questioned whether Moss had anything left in 2006, when he had his worst season with the Raiders. And he responded in 2007 by having his best season.
