The only problem with what you say is it suggests that you can believe what irsay says. The fact that this is going on the way it is proves his word is not valid. If irsay was a man he would have keep the whole thing between he and Manning instead of going through all this PR crap. He may be no better than some owners, but he has certainly proved he is not a man to be trusted.

The Colts are going to keep Manning. Irsay said point blank he wants him to stay in Indy and Manning wants to stay there too. They just have to come to an agreement on a new contract because of his injury so that the Colts aren't screwed if Manning can't play in the future for some reason.

Luck will play for the Colts if he agrees to sit on the bench. I don't see that happening though so he's probably going to be traded for RG3 (who said he wouldn't mind sitting on the bench learning from Manning) and a couple of 1st round picks.

I agree with one thing you said, people will be talking about irsay's move for a long time. That will be because they will remain at the bottom of the league. I don't think what happens with Manning will change that. The thing is how players view irsay and whether or not they will really play for him, or just take his money.

Dear tommyf15:

My goofy little letter was a weak jab at the juvenile posts from the Irsay haters. Every day I have to climb in a suit, wrench my jugular too tight with a silk tourniquet, and interact with a bunch of stiff but spineless and politically correct boobs who bore me to death even if I do admire their business sense and a ability to make tough decisions. I find Irsay and his quirkiness to be refreshing and amusing. He takes the edge off of some of these No Fun League aspect of the NFL.

As for Peyton being the sole reason for the Colts success, I offer a few points: 1 - Irsay gets equal credit for signing Manning to the team. 2 - The idea that Manning would have guided ANY team to similar success is pure, flawed speculation. It can't be proven either way. 3 - The idea the Colts should have won 4 SB rings with Manning and didn't because the Colts org sucks is one of the more juvenile views around. Most of the rantings I've seen about this assume that the Colts would have hit 95% amazing late round draft picks, or magically been granted an extra 20 million in cap space to surround him with talent. I lot of folks sit in their living rooms speculating like it is fantasy football with magic money (sort of how they vote for congress).

Irsay wanted to pay him 100,000,000

Manning took 90,000,000....over 5 years

10% discount to keep players and get FA's

Does anyone really get excited over a 10% discount?

It's pretty funny to look back now to Irsay's Twitter feed and what he and Manning said at the time he signed that contract.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/31/sports/football/manning-agrees-to-90-million-contract-with-colts.html

“Whether I deserve to be the highest-paid player over the next five years is irrelevant,” Manning told The Star. “I would rather them use that money and keep the players they want to keep and get other players. I told them that.”

“It’s a credit 2 Peyton,” Irsay wrote on Twitter. “Put Colt fans, teammates, Ind. ’n’ winning ahead of all.”

Down the road there's no other organization who would be likely to give him a $90 million contract extension without checking if he's healthy first.

Dear Guest Singer:

During that 16 year period, the Colts went 14 - 34 without Peyton Manning.

Maybe, just maybe, Manning's on-field ability has more to do with the Colts' success than anything Irsay has done.

And like many before you, you're getting too worked up over the article speculating that Irsay's antics may be turning Luck off. Fact is, for all we know Luck might LOVE how Irsay has handled the Manning situation and may desperately want to play in Indianapolis as a result.

Betcha didn't think of that.

Nobody is a sure thing???
I'm sorry, how does anyone, particularly Irsay, know at this point that Manning is a sure thing with his rehab? There is a chance that he may retire if he doesn't get all his strength back. He's not Superman. He just can't wish himself into his old self. And don't give me the " a Peyton at 70% is better than a lot of QBs. That's total BS. It's the NFL, the best cover guys in the league. A slightly off Manning will be no better than Gabbert, as an example. Smarten up people.
Btw. He was paid 26 million last season, not 20. Right from Irsays mouth after their home game vs Texans.

Dear Andrew Luck,

If Jim Irsay and the Colts draft you this April, do not sign with them. Jim Irsay is a stupid dummy and has navigated his team into the playoffs only 12 of the 16 years since he took over the team. I mean c'mon man, just because he has the best winning percentage of any owner during his tenure doesn't mean he isn't a stupid dummy.

In fact, considering many of the posts here from folks I presume are football fans, maybe you should shop your services to some MLB team. I think their fans have a little more on the ball, so to speak.

It's been stated that Elway had other options, and let's remember the full situation with Manning. San Diego didn't want Manning, they wanted Rivers all along.
The only people really bashing Irsay are the media (because that's what they do these trying to make story) and non-Colt fans. Colt fans know that Irsay has been a very good owner and not at all like his father. We may not fully agree with the way he handled the Manning situation in the press, but other than that there are very few instances to complain about. He has never been afraid to spend money to make the Colts a winner. In 1998, Polian was considered one of the best GM's around, he became available and Irsay spared no expense to get him. Same thing with Dungy. What owner of a small market team has been committed to building a winning team more than Irsay?

The only people really bashing Irsay are the media (because that’s what they do these trying to make story) and non-Colt fans. Colt fans know that Irsay has been a very good owner and not at all like his father. We may not fully agree with the way he handled the Manning situation in the press, but other than that there are very few instances to complain about. He has never been afraid to spend money to make the Colts a winner. In 1998, Polian was considered one of the best GM’s around, he became available and Irsay spared no expense to get him. Same thing with Dungy. What owner of a small market team has been committed to building a winning team more than Irsay? As a fan that’s a pretty good trait to have from your owner.

deadeye says: Luck wants to be the #1 pick for the money. Nothing is guaranteed, and if he’s foolish enough to piss away that opportunity, then so be it. RG3 will be a worthy #1 overall pick in Luck’s place.

As much as I like RG3, don;t kid yourself into thinking he's interchangable with Luck.

Andrew Luck is a once-in-a-generation prospect, up there with John Elway, Peyton Manning, and literally no one else. No one is getting selected ahead of him.

I was a kid living near the Colts trainng facility when the Mayflower move happened. I couldn't hope for more if an Elway like scenario played out on them again after he lets Manning go... nobody is a sure thing..

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

If the public would take the time to understand the injury they would realize that if his arm strength/ nerve issue returns to normal, then his risk is exactly the same as it was the day he put on a helmet.

The Irsay family will never gain my sympathy or favor. Manning was the only reason I could even watch the Colts again...

Please come to Miami Peyton... the weather, the lack of state taxes, and the real estate mogul owner are all favorable aspects.. the defense is already better than the Colts, and most of the parts on offense are at least comparable with a draft and free agency to fine tune for your preferences. Maybe Reggie will come with you, since he went to college down here and would certainly remain single covered with Brandon in place here. Just a thought.

indyrage says: I cant believe the way the press and media are treating Irsay.

He most certainly did not. You act as if it was an act of charity, but we both know:

1. No one knew Manning would miss all of 2011 when the contract was signed.

2. It was either pay Manning or lose him.

indyrage says: The man paid Manning 20 million dollars to take a year off. Everyone wants to paint him as the bad guy. I honestly believe that they…..”the so called experts” want Manning in a different uniform. I will laugh when Irsay does resign Manning. He will either be a Colt, or he will retire. Mark that on your journals “so called experts” We will draft Luck and have Peyton too. He will restructure his contract because there is a chance he may not be ready until Sept. Who says you can have your cake and eat it too?

I think this post is going to leave you with cake on your face.

Manning is done in Indianapolis. There's an off-chance he may retire, but he obviously doesn't want to.

Why would Manning agree to re-structure his contract knowing that they're going to draft Luck, and that he can make more money in the open market?
