Raiders are old with a maxed out cap and no draft picks. Good luck with that next year.

Old? You're correct on the draft picks, but the team is far from old, and cap space is always manageable.

Ha, those of you trying to kick knowledge about "getting with the times" like 2012 football is anything to brag about, do you see any Raider players holding out for bigger contracts, or criticizing their teammates, coaches, fans in public? No... Cause Al took care of his people and the Raider way is to handle everything in house..

It's funny how everyone claims to hate the raiders, or how were a joke franchise, But yet everytime there's a post about us, cats go out of their way to post something about us... Guess that tells you everything you need to know!!

To everyone else that had my back, preciate the love.. Us true Raiders gotta stick together!!

Yes, let's get rid of the little talent we have on defense, he might be overpaid but if he is cut then we'll be officially in the rebulding mode and in the race for next year's first overall pick.
Let's remember he plays 30-35% as DE, playing full time there could get a boost in his production, just saying.

WestCoastRaider is absolutely right.

These fake Raider fans are willing to sell their soul for at best; a bunch of first round playoff exits in a dying, unwatchable NFL.

The Raiders represented something much greater than a football team, and Mckenzie is doing his best to destroy decades of work, in favor of a cookie cutter regime that represents the power structure in which the raiders are supposed to oppose.

If the Raiders go 8-8 or less they need to can McKenzie

To all you "I Heart Al Davis and the Raider Way" old schoolers: As a Raider fan since '76, I am certainly "real," so save it.
I'm always confused by your ridiculous allegiance to a man who actually hated you on many levels. Al Davis moved our team to another city, threatened to move away a second time after crawling back whenever he thought someone else might cut a slice of elusive LA Pie, and consistently brought unnecessary ire from his 31 other partners, adversely effecting this team's chances of ever winning anything (hence, the Tuck Rule/Snow Job and so forth) while he was still running it. I started watching football when he was great, and (along with any other self respecting Raider fan) suffered through the agony of his stubborn allegiance to all the wrong elements of the Raider Way for his second act. What was once, was no more: no longer the Raider Way, just Al's Way. Thankfully, that way is gone - but don't worry, it will live on in infamy and probably overshadow any good and practical decision Reggie makes... unless we win a Super Bowl again.

Owners own. Owners hire managers. Managers hire coaches. Coaches coach players. The players play and by default, become extensions owners. For 20 years Raiders players echoed the maverick persona of the old Al Davis, and for the last 20 years they've echoed the shadow of that man. Desperate, panicked and totally out of their depth.
Here's a question: What's longer? Two decades of winning and trophies or two decades of losing, dysfunction, embarrassment, repetition vs. correction and stubbornness?

It's over. Can you say "we had a great run" when you can barely remember it anymore? The challenges of being champions in the future are NOTHING compared to trying to be champions in the future by methods of the past.

McK to Wimbley: please explain why this contract makes sense.

(silence)

I hope McK asks to restructure the contract to something he'll get on the market. Or off with his head..

I'm on board with the clean house.

Old time Raider fans need to realize (like others have said), the "Raider way" just isn't realistic for success at this point. It can still be done- but there has to be an actual foundation to the squad- which there isn't.

Keep the heads rolling and get that stink out of the Coliseum...

This was his first year with the 4-3 defense in the NFL. Cleveland tried and failed to convert him to the 3-4 defense. Wimbley nowhere near worthly of being paid $11 mil. I commend Reggie McKenzie for getting rid of 'whacko' contracts. However, he needs to make every attempt to keep certain players by offering contracts that are comparative to what will be offered by teams that need a 6'4" 255 lb 4-3 OLB.

Amen to this.

What’s up with you all fawning over McKenzie? Basically, the guy :

– Fired the best coach we’ve had in a long time.
– Severely downgraded our offensive coaching staff by getting rid of Hue and Wylie and reducing Saunders’ role.
– Released our best, albeit overpaid, cornerback.
– Signed a known wifebeater.

Sorry, and I’m not saying the guy can’t do a decent job despite the shaky start, but let’s not go crazy saying how he’s going to save us from a Hall of Fame owner who got us McFadden, Bush, Reeece, Moore, Ford, Wisniewski, Veldheer, Shaughnessy, Branch and many others within the last few years.

*******************************************************

Hue was toast after his rant following the SD game. Even if it's justified, you don't publicly call out your team. Remember the "dumbest team in America" comment? Callahan lost the team for good after that one.
I liked Wylie a lot, and replacing him was a head scratcher, but Reggie, like any good G.M., is letting his HC pick his owb staff. ZB is the way Allen wants to go, so he went out and got on of the best. Hue was a terrible play-caller and I'm glad he's done. We don't have to worry about any triple reverses on the 2 yard line anymore.
Stanford Routt and his 17 penalties (and those were just the ones the refs caught) had to go. He was just bad.
The wifebeater will be nothing more than camp fodder.

Raiders are releasing him
11 Mil is way to much for him, There is not a LB in the NFL that should get 11 ml right now..
It was a poor yea for LBs in general it was a poor year for Defense in the whole NFL this year!
The 49ers and Giants were the only ones that had a D and I can argue that they are not even that good either they just looked so good compared to all the crap in the NFL..

– Signed a known wifebeater.

he also

-got rid of the most penalized corner, and obviously not a shut down corner
-you wont know how its downgraded until the season goes
-the "best coach" got the same record Cable got, lost his team traded away picks for a QB, then sought even more power..following an absolute GAG job v. the Chargers that would've won them the west.
-Ray Lewis murdered someone (allegedly) , Brandon Underwood is a camp body - he basically just takes Jerome Boyd's spot on special teams...

Just another ghetto, uneducated Jokeland fan. Man, your squad has plenty. I hate to support the Chiefs and Chargers fans out there, but who has been representing the AFC West in the playoffs over the last decade. Jokeland? Hahahaha.

Oh yeah… and your handle is still a guy who now coaches for the Bengals. Jackass.

You are almost worse than joetoronto. Idiots.

uh have your teams even been in a Super Bowl THIS DECADE?

WTF did the Bengals do when they got to the playoffs...all they did was

A. lose to the Niners twice the SB
B. end Bo Jackson's career
C. have a WR die falling out of a truck

Is this the same "best coach we've had in a long time" that had to settle for a special teams/defensive backs coach with the Bengals?

Really?

Hue was creative and his offense was fun to watch, but best coach?

If he really was great as you point out, Hue Jackson would have landed an offensive coordinator job the moment he was canned by Oakland.

Now, he's relegated to coaching defense and special teams, something he has never done in his coaching career.

@BigTGangks

your comment proves why you will never get it. Blockbuster video was strictly about making money. There weren't 29 other video franchises competing in a league of video stores.

The Raiders were about something far more significant than money. They were a cultural idea that united millions of people, and changed the perception of sports. Whatever Reggie Mckenzie does will have no effect on what the shield will forever represent.

His insignificance will reveal itself in 100 years when his cookie cutter, mundane teams aren't remembered at all, irregardless of record.

2 things

If Oakland plans on being relativley competetive this year they shouldn't boot too many.

Flacco/Agent- I can think of at least 10 quarterbacks that should be paid more than Flacco. Some didn't even make the playoffs this year. Its one thing to be so inconsistant, its another to have a big mouth and talk big and be sooooo inconsistant. You will never win a superbowl chump. You don't have the testicular fortitude for it. That handlebar stache make you feel like a man, boy?lol

Some of us understand that Matt (ShoNasty) Shaunessy will be back from injury next year. Wimbley at $11 million is ridiculous. All you cats here complaining about Al and celebrating the coming of McKenzie are not and will never be Real Raiders…

Part of being a Raider is doing things our way, who cares what everyone else is doing.. And that defines Al Davis and what he did with the Raiders..

Im Hoping McKenzie has a little bit of that in him and keeps us in the tradition that is Being a Raider!!!

RaiderNation For Ever!!

Amen to this.

What's up with you all fawning over McKenzie? Basically, the guy :

-- Fired the best coach we've had in a long time.
-- Severely downgraded our offensive coaching staff by getting rid of Hue and Wylie and reducing Saunders' role.
-- Released our best, albeit overpaid, cornerback.
-- Signed a known wifebeater.

Sorry, and I'm not saying the guy can't do a decent job despite the shaky start, but let's not go crazy saying how he's going to save us from a Hall of Fame owner who got us McFadden, Bush, Reeece, Moore, Ford, Wisniewski, Veldheer, Shaughnessy, Branch and many others within the last few years.
