Old? You’re correct on the draft picks, but the team is far from old, and cap space is always manageable.

To all you “I Heart Al Davis and the Raider Way” old schoolers: As a Raider fan since ’76, I am certainly “real,” so save it.
I’m always confused by your ridiculous allegiance to a man who actually hated you on many levels. Al Davis moved our team to another city, threatened to move away a second time after crawling back whenever he thought someone else might cut a slice of elusive LA Pie, and consistently brought unnecessary ire from his 31 other partners, adversely effecting this team’s chances of ever winning anything (hence, the Tuck Rule/Snow Job and so forth) while he was still running it. I started watching football when he was great, and (along with any other self respecting Raider fan) suffered through the agony of his stubborn allegiance to all the wrong elements of the Raider Way for his second act. What was once, was no more: no longer the Raider Way, just Al’s Way. Thankfully, that way is gone – but don’t worry, it will live on in infamy and probably overshadow any good and practical decision Reggie makes… unless we win a Super Bowl again.

Owners own. Owners hire managers. Managers hire coaches. Coaches coach players. The players play and by default, become extensions owners. For 20 years Raiders players echoed the maverick persona of the old Al Davis, and for the last 20 years they’ve echoed the shadow of that man. Desperate, panicked and totally out of their depth.
Here’s a question: What’s longer? Two decades of winning and trophies or two decades of losing, dysfunction, embarrassment, repetition vs. correction and stubbornness?

It’s over. Can you say “we had a great run” when you can barely remember it anymore? The challenges of being champions in the future are NOTHING compared to trying to be champions in the future by methods of the past.

Old time Raider fans need to realize (like others have said), the “Raider way” just isn’t realistic for success at this point. It can still be done- but there has to be an actual foundation to the squad- which there isn’t.

– Severely downgraded our offensive coaching staff by getting rid of Hue and Wylie and reducing Saunders’ role.
– Released our best, albeit overpaid, cornerback.
– Signed a known wifebeater.

Sorry, and I’m not saying the guy can’t do a decent job despite the shaky start, but let’s not go crazy saying how he’s going to save us from a Hall of Fame owner who got us McFadden, Bush, Reeece, Moore, Ford, Wisniewski, Veldheer, Shaughnessy, Branch and many others within the last few years.

Hue was toast after his rant following the SD game. Even if it’s justified, you don’t publicly call out your team. Remember the “dumbest team in America” comment? Callahan lost the team for good after that one.
I liked Wylie a lot, and replacing him was a head scratcher, but Reggie, like any good G.M., is letting his HC pick his owb staff. ZB is the way Allen wants to go, so he went out and got on of the best. Hue was a terrible play-caller and I’m glad he’s done. We don’t have to worry about any triple reverses on the 2 yard line anymore.
Stanford Routt and his 17 penalties (and those were just the ones the refs caught) had to go. He was just bad.
The wifebeater will be nothing more than camp fodder.

Part of being a Raider is doing things our way,who cares what everyone is doing..And that defines Al Davis and being a Raider.

It was a poor yea for LBs in general it was a poor year for Defense in the whole NFL this year!
The 49ers and Giants were the only ones that had a D and I can argue that they are not even that good either they just looked so good compared to all the crap in the NFL..
Raiders are on the right track I see this team winning the West easily this year.. Broncos are horrible, Chiefs suck and Chargers have Norv Turner as their Head Coach

-the “best coach” got the same record Cable got, lost his team traded away picks for a QB, then sought even more power..following an absolute GAG job v. the Chargers that would’ve won them the west.
-Ray Lewis murdered someone (allegedly) , Brandon Underwood is a camp body – he basically just takes Jerome Boyd’s spot on special teams…

Ask me how I know you never watched any Niners games this year. Patrick Willis is the best linebacker alive. Not since Ray Lewis (10 years ago!) has anyone played like him. If he really was great as you point out, Hue Jackson would have landed an offensive coordinator job the moment he was canned by Oakland.

Now, he’s relegated to coaching defense and special teams, something he has never done in his coaching career.

your comment proves why you will never get it. Blockbuster video was strictly about making money. There weren’t 29 other video franchises competing in a league of video stores.

The Raiders were about something far more significant than money. They were a cultural idea that united millions of people, and changed the perception of sports. Whatever Reggie Mckenzie does will have no effect on what the shield will forever represent.

His insignificance will reveal itself in 100 years when his cookie cutter, mundane teams aren’t remembered at all, irregardless of record.

If Oakland plans on being relativley competetive this year they shouldn’t boot too many.

Flacco/Agent- I can think of at least 10 quarterbacks that should be paid more than Flacco. Some didn’t even make the playoffs this year. Some of us understand that Matt (ShoNasty) Shaunessy will be back from injury next year. Wimbley at $11 million is ridiculous. If he doesn’t restructure he can go try and find someone willing to pay him something even close to that. What he’ll realize is that the team that saved him from Cleveland was the best fit after all.
