What’s next for the Redskins

Two years into the Mike Shanahan era, the Redskins defense is in decent shape.

While the team isn’t exactly brimming with young talent, the roster’s overall youth and depth have improved since Shanahan took over. There are some pieces in place.

The offense — which should be Shanahan’s strength — remains mostly a mess. The team finished 26th in points scored. Only two teams turned the ball over more. Quarterback is unsettled, wide receiver includes no explosive players, and the offensive line still has plenty of questions.

Washington’s to do list is up next.

Explain to me why the offense should be Shanahan’s strength. What has he really done since Elway retired. Nothing

They need a an, wr and rb. Other than that, keep doing what you’re doing skins lol.

The Skins need to draft offense in every round except the second. Hoping Hightower from Alabama is still there. He can learn from 59.

Let’s try and identify some problems. Let’s start off with the worlds most important position: Quarterback.
Ah, he’s your problem, one plays as if he is colorblind at times while the other keeps trying to convince himself that he is awesome with the only person believing him is his offensive coordinator.
    Might want to start there.

How’s did that trying to buy your Super Bowl thing go last year? Trophy case still empty? All that talent bought you three more wins than the Skins. Hmmmm.

Not sold on RGIII, but Kyle freaking Orton as a FA might help?

    And a mid-round QB prospect?

How on Earth does that make the Redskins better than trading up for RGIII?

I’d rather see the Redskins keep Beck & Grossman, stink again, and have a shot at Barkley than sign Kyle freaking Orton.

    Eagles fans are the worst.

Didn’t buy much ” talent ” to be honest…name a big name talent that they signed other than nnamdi? Oh right you can’t because the rest are just big ” names ” or former big names, besides I wouldn’t talk, skins are known for their f/a failures, now back to ” knowledgable ” football talk, rather than listening to another eagles fan who embarrasses the rest of us, this teams #1 problem is the quarterback, I myself find the position is way overrated in today’s game, everyone’s looking for Tom Brady, with that being said grossman really? If I was a skins fan I wouldn’t of held any hope for a season with this guy on the roster…I attempted to support him in Chicago and he did nothing but make me look like a fool, when a team on the brink of going 0-16 ” lions ” says they would not show interest in him, it’s time to call it quits. Superior defense in this club though, hands down talent all across, if they can get themselves a quarterback who’s even half decent and a weapon in the wide out or slot position with a couple other mediocre receivers I think this team can be scary, O-line is always important but right now I think this team should be more focused on gaining some deep threats, if the qb has nobody to throw to he’s going to fail, if he has no time to throw sure he can fail, but with some weapons, it would give this team a better approach to winning NOW rather than later . Good luck skins, even though your division rivals, I’ll always love what this team is about and their fan base is awesome, high class fans, you rarely hear of any issues their, been to two games wearing my eagles jersey ad people heckle but all in good fun, they keep it at a game unlike raiders and niners stadiums, not fans just some of them

Get a veteran like Manning, Flynn or final option Orton, and try to get Tannehill with a lower pick too. Do not trade the kitchen sink for RGIII unless he evaluates off the charts for scouts/coaches at combine. Grossman is serviceable — for 3rd string.

Need to settle the QB fiasco first and foremost. I wouldn’t mind a cerebral QB like Orton for a year or two, while grooming a young QB out of the draft. Need a deep threat, while using Hankerson as your possession receiver. Moss can complement both, and we still have some young unproven WR’s on the roster. Need a RT, but the o-line is better than what they are getting credit for. 2 young backs getting 100 yd games over the last 5 games of the year says a little about our o-line. Use the draft to continue to infuse youth all over roster. Position doesn’t matter, just pick the best player at that pick. Most importantly, do not trade away our future to move up in the first. If our roster was more stable, then I would say to move up, but our mismanagement over the last 20 years does not allow us to that. HTTR!!

Why is everyone so down on RGIII? He’s a better prospect than all the college qb’s named in previous posts. He is what the skins need. No more cast offs and left overs. The only reason we pick up a veteran qb is to back up RGIII. We plenty of picks to spare.

  16. Lev says: Feb 17, 2012 5:03 PM

Im interested to see how Fred Davis matures (if he does) hopefully he can grow up a bit. If not he’d make great trade bait to get RGIII

  17. toler21 says: Feb 17, 2012 5:17 PM

Maybe add Flynn and try to put as much talent around him at the skill positions?

It can’t get much worse than the QB situation from this past year.

  18. delshofner says: Feb 17, 2012 5:32 PM

It’s amazing how coaches get reputations at being “gurus” at whatever area the team they run has the most talent at.

  19. blackqbwhiterb says: Feb 17, 2012 5:35 PM

Gimme a QB, right tackle, and safety. Then a corner. This team is young and improving. Be patient.

  20. schlonkie2 says: Feb 17, 2012 6:02 PM

    @rwmilli

Dude…there isnt a skins fan out there that has half a brain that thought the skins were going to go anywhere with Rex Grossman. So dont assume just cause he is the qb of the team, every fan blindly follows and thinks hes “the one.” I for one was just sold on the fact that if we were building in other areas, I could settle for a Fat Rex if it meant we drafted a QB the following year…heres to hoping that happens.

For sure in the past the Skins have been a disaster in F/A..but besides McNabb, Shanny did a pretty good job in F/A so far in his tenure…Bowen, Cofield, Atogwe, J Wilson were all solid players that the skins didnt overspend on.

Skins fans get beaten down constantly over our joke of a front office in the past (and rightly so), but how about giving a lil credit when its due, god knows everyone out there has already cashed in all their bash tokens on us.

That being said, glad to hear you have had good experiences with Skins games in DC…hope you have many more. Its a game, its supposed to be fun. I love talking trash to opposing fans, but I also love having a laugh with them afterwards cause we know it was all in good fun…thats supposed to be the point.

Good luck to the Eagles as well, every NFC East team is going to need it next year…this div will likely be much tougher than it was this past year.

Steeler hypocrite says “Whats next? probably 6 and 10″……Sure the Steelers have been great the last few years but the writing is on the wall! these guys are like 30 mill over the cap and their roster is filled with aging players! And this brings me to my question about the Steelers!!!! You need to be more concernd with your team rather than trolling on the Skins board!!!!! Our QB sucks but hes not a rapist!!!!

  22. waitingguilty says: Feb 17, 2012 6:11 PM

Sign Orton and develop a 4th rounder at QB?

My god man, that’s a formula for mediocrity if I’ve ever heard one.

The Redskins need Griffin. The story starts and stops there.

As far as all your restructure talk…you do realize the Redskins are $40 million under the cap right?

I love to hear the Eagles fans talk crap on here because it makes them all look like idiots.

Last time I checked…the Skins have 3 Lombardi trophies while the Eagles still have dust on their shelves.

    Just sayin’…

Keep trying to buy your championship rings Eagles and make sure you stick with Andy Reid and Juan Castillo.

uh, Eagles fan, you need to watch them more, the Redskins do NOT need a RB, they have Helu and Royster and if they re-sign Hightower, there’s 3 RBs they have!!

they need a QB BADLY and all Orton will likely do is take them to a 6 and 10 record and lead to a Shanahan firing.

  28. gotcaughtcheating says: Feb 18, 2012 2:13 AM

Shanahan hasn’t done anything since the League figured out he’d cheated his way to those two Super Bowl wins — save for one decent season with Plummer in 2005.

Face it. It was a stupid hire. The guy can’t evaluate talent at the most important position in sports — unless you still think McNabb, Grossman, and Beck are gems in the making — and he certainly can’t coach. Moreover Snyder is a football moron and the franchise will continue to wallow in sub-mediocrity until he’s gone, which unfortunately will be another 30 years.

  29. deshackle says: Feb 19, 2012 11:57 AM

Redskins must go all-in for the #2 pick in the draft, and then take Robert Lee Griffin III.
