jg0304 thinks that the Steelers have had a solid running game. Thanks. I haven't laughed that hard in years. The Steelers had 58 yards rushing and 2.2 YPC during Super Bowl XLIII. How solid of them. They haven't ranked in the top 10 in rushing yards or YPC since 2007 either. Quite solid, I must say. Of course, feces is solid too.

Pittsburgh's running game has been mediocre for the last four seasons, and yet, they have a combined record of 45-19 in that period of time, with three playoff appearances, two division championships, two conference championships, and one Super Bowl championship. So basically, not only are you guilty of the correlation/causation fallacy, but your timeline is off too. Those little details just get in the way, don't they?

You know what's not solid, though? Your credibility. It just vaporized.

As for bigbluenationdb claiming that Roethlisberger fools around all game and only gets it together in the fourth quarter, here's a nifty chart just for you:

1Q, 2009 - 108.7
2Q, 2009 - 109.3
3Q, 2009 - 76.6
4Q, 2009 - 101.8

1Q, 2010 - 79.1
2Q, 2010 - 100.4
3Q, 2010 - 96.4
4Q, 2010 - 110.3

1Q, 2011 - 103.9
2Q, 2011 - 89.5
3Q, 2011 - 92.5
4Q, 2011 - 74.1

As you can see, Roethlisberger has posted a passer rating of 90.0+ in eight of his last 12 season quarters, and 100.0+ in six of his last 12 season quarters. Doesn't look like he's fooling around in every quarter but the fourth to me.

By the way, Roethlisberger's 90.1 passer rating in 2011 is still higher than all but two of Eli Manning's single-season ratings. Really, Giants fans don't have much room to call other QBs overrated, especially considering everybody's proclaimed Eli Manning to be "elite" in the last few weeks. Never mind that Roethlisberger has a better career winning percentage, completion percentage, TD percentage, INT percentage, TD/INT ratio and passer rating than Eli does, plus more yards per game and yards per attempt. Great, Eli's played well in the Super Bowl, but then again, so did Jim Plunkett, Doug Williams and Jeff Hostetler, yet that didn't magically make any of them elite QBs. For that matter, playing poorly in the Super Bowl didn't prevent Fran Tarkenton, John Elway or Jim Kelly from being elite QBs either.

In the business world, shouldn't the employee come to the boss?

I mean, it is nice when the boss calls, however you would think that Ben would want to make sure to meet his new coach, whether he likes him or not.

They will have to work together, the Rooneys like Ben but still found it necessary to hire Haley. That should tell him something.

Based on what, 2 SB's one which was won by Willie Parker and Playing the horrid Seahawks. He is not elite, he is a 6'5 Holligan with a big arm. Thats about it.....Pittsburgh's success under PigBen is attributed to a great defense and a solid ground game. Since the ground game vanished so did their SB wins.

Ben is a future hall of fame quarterback. Nobody is going to remember who this Todd Haley guy is 15 years from now. Ben should keep that in mind and not lower himself to Haley’s level.

Freaking diva... Tastelessberger thinks his BOSS needs

For all of you anti-Haley idiots, Haley was hired to make Big Ben stop being fat and lazy and complacent. The Rooney’s have signed off on Haley’s tough love approach. No team will ever let it’s QB control the organization again after Peyton Manning ruled the Colts. That dynamic is now history and Big Ben needs to start working hard again.

====================

Its a receipe for disaster, as he crushed Matt Cassel's confidence, went against Pioli, sold out Bill Muir, then took over OC duties, and the Chiefs regressed even more (albiet they had injuries to major starters).

Horrific hire. Tomlin better watch his back, i think it was telling when Tomlin was like "Im on board with Haley" line days after the hire.

Its no coincidence Charlie Weis split before the season ended to a OC job. He's a wanna be Bill Parcells type (without the rings or respect from his team)

half the time, Cassel would be yelling back at him, as were a number of players. You could argue he fired them up, but it backfired often with petty final game accusations of running the score up...I can believe they let this guy into the Blast Furnace....

Both men need to be professionals and learn how to work effectively together. But I don't put as much stock in Parcells' coaching methods/style. He was a prick and a half and got away with it because he won Superbowls. There were plenty of men that carried themselves with maturity and professionalism that he still treated like crap. Lombardi was glorified because he was a winner, but treated the players downright abusively. You can get the best out of grown men playing a game they love without having to be a jerk. It's called being mature.

Ben should wear his his Super Bowl rings, so when Haley starts acting like Haley, he can just make a fist and say... how many of these do you have? You know what buddy, you can go scream at a wall for 15 minutes while I stand in the pocket shrugging of 300 pound lineman, during my fourth quarter comebacks where I have to throw the game winning touchdown twice b/c my receivers are bush league. When your done with temper tantrum you can go to press pretend you had something to do with the win.

Overblown story, as usual.

Should they be in contact? Yes, but Tomlin still has the final OK over the playbook.

I think Ben knows that the plays shouldn't change too drastically, just the order in which they were called.

That was the biggest problem with Arians. Sometimes every route by the receiver would be 25 yards long and he would call all of the plays in succession.

Individually, those are good plays. But back to back to back, when they didn't work the first time usually spells disaster.

bigbluenationdb

Oh please. Eli has 2 superbowls exclusively because of his defense.

I can tell you right now that he would have 0 if he was playing with Pitt's D.

Despite the fact that Pitt's D is perpetually #1 or #2 in the league, Brady usually carves them up. And in 2007, the Giants won because their defense held the highest scoring offense in league history to 14 points.

Don't talk about "overrated."

Let the drama begin, the Steelers will implode. They had a good run ,but are clearly on the downward spiral to the bottom of the AFC north. they will not make the playoffs again anytime soon (book it) And Poor Baby Benny didn’t get a phone call, WAAAAHH, now you know how your women feel not getting the “courtesy call”. Should make for good entertainment this year.

Bottom of the AFC North? 12-4 is hardly on the "downward spiral" Must be a Browns/Bungals/Gayvens fan. You'd know all about it then.

Seeing as how Haley is a professional coach, beginning his time with an organization that was in the Super Bowl just two years ago ... a courtesy call to your 2-time winning Super Bowl quarterback might not be a bad idea.

Each offensive coordinator has a system with an invented language that's fairly unique ... and I suspect you'd want your starting quarterback to be able to master it before the season kicks off.

Perhaps it's still too early ... maybe he wants to give Big Ben his time off - at least until after the draft. But a phone call or a visit wouldn't be out of order.

Screw up this relationship - and Failure won't be far behind.
