Cowboys hint Brooking and James unlikely to return to team

AP

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said no final decisions have been made on the futures of linebackers Keith Brooking and Bradie James.

And then he proceeded to talk about them as if they were already gone, indicating that both veteran leaders are unlikely to be back with the team.

“Bradie and Brooking are two of the best leaders, personalities I have ever had the pleasure of being around,” Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. “They’re great guys. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. That’s what we’ve got to decide. But no one respects those guys more than we do, our family does, than the Cowboys do.”

Sean Lee is entrenched as a starter at inside linebacker. The team would like to get last year’s second round pick Bruce Carter on the field more. If James or Brooking returned to Dallas, it probably would be for a reduced salary later in the offseason because they couldn’t get work elsewhere.

  1. Did you know that since the 1963 draft only six players chosesn number 1 overall and six players chosen number 2 overall have made it to the Hall of Fame?

  2. I just hope they don’t franchise Spencer. That money could be used on a player that produces. Spencer is great against the run, but we need another pass rusher to help Ware.

    ++++

Who are they? Too lazy to look it up

  4. Cowturd fans should have been embarassed how Brooking “acted” before games while trying to get his team hyped. I mean that was just terrible and I got douche chills everytime I saw it. It was uncomforatble to watch but I just could not turn away. Dude, you are no Brees.

  5. Wasn’t someone on the team just questioning whether they had a leader in the locker room? With these two gone, then there’s really no one to lead that defense

  6. I agree binky. Brooking, these days, is all talk and James disappeared last year. I wish they gave Carter more playing time at the end of last year. I also agree that Spencer should not be given the franchise tag – he is just not as productive to warrant that amount of money. I would rather see the Cowboys go for Mario Williams who can play LB, as well as DE in their hybrid 4-3.

This was almost a given. It is time for Sean Lee to be unleashed. Maybe even see a Bruce Lee combo…Bruce Carter and Sean Lee.

    ^^
No, if you put their names together you come up with…. Car Ramrod

  9. The Cowboys will be fine on defense. All they really need are a few GOOD DB’s. It’s the offense that better get good real fast. OL, receivers and QB not making stupid decesions at critical times! And get another running back so your not left with Jones when Murry goes down. Jones is great at situational plays, but not a every down back.

Glad my Vikings are picking 3rd (at least for only a year). 🙂

  11. Brooking was washed up long before he got to the Cowboys. Falcons fans couldn’t wait to see him leave during his last few years there.

  12. The Cowboys should also hint at cutting Terrence Newman,Marcus Spears,Felix Jones and Orlando Scandrick.Smiles Austin got paid a nice contract and has not done much since. If they dont draft defense it will be another year of watching Jason Garrett playing with his hat on the sidelines as the clock winds down!!

  13. No Cowboys fans needed this hint. Maybe James can get a backup job somewhere to play on running downs, but both have lost too many steps to play as starters in the NFL any longer.

  14. sean lee is a terrific player. brooking is pure garbage.

last i heard of brooking he was crying that favre and the vikings ran up the score on them in the playoffs rather then trying to stop them. thought that was his last game as a cowboy but some how hung on an extra 2 years.

  15. Good ol’ Bradie James, always good for making a tackle 5 yards down the field after getting ran over. Dude doesn’t understand the meaning of filling the gap.

  16. listen…on one of Brookings last plays as a Falcon, they needed to win to go to the playoffs. 3rd and long play fake in front of Brooking, receiver going deep down the middle…you guessed it Brooking bit on the short route and allowed the quarterback to throw over him, 1st down Falcons lose and Jerry says”hey, we have GOT to have this guy!!”

    And Bruce Smith makes eight.

  18. Bradie James – has been a warrior for this team and it’s hard to see him go, but I’d take him back at a ‘reduced rate’. He’s a lot like Dat Nguyen. He’s given his heart and soul to this team and he’s been a very solid player in some pretty tough circumstances.

Brooking – since the very second he did his moronic, phony and embarassing ‘rah-rah’ thing on national television he helped make this era’s Cowboys the running joke they are. While I agreed with his signing when they first brought him in, he’s been on this team about 2 years too long.
