Ravens fans make me laugh… you dont have alot of cap space ….right now about 10 million or so under give or take… Flaccco wants a new deal.. Grubbs .. Ray Rice wants at least 7 million a year and also need to sigh Mclain, J. Johnson, Redding, Gurode as well as some others… The Steelers got alot of attention because they were over the cap and Balt wasnt…. The Steelers have gotten themselves taken care of … The Ravens have yet to do anything and figure hout who they are keeping but trust me once they have to figure out a way to resign these guys it will be humerous to see what type of shape they are in and I can bet it will not be any different than the Steelers…

Now I am not talking trash about the ravens front office or anything.. just find it funny how the Steelers have already taken care of things while the ravens havnt done anything yet… and Ravens fans are acting like they have all this cap space and front office is doing a great job… Give it a few more weeks up to March 13th deadline and see where ya ll at then.

Ozzie has proven to be a great GM, but I have to give the edge to Colbert. I find it telling that no other names or teams and/or GMs have been mentioned in the conversation. I think it proves the point.

Serious football fans always have worries about the coming season. How we’re going to handle the Wallace situation isn’t one of mine. Mike wants to stay, and the Steelers want to keep him. We have personnel options remaining that will give us more cap room. If we end up losing Wallace, we’ll survive–as we did when we lost Burress.

Hines doesn’t have to retire when the Steelers tell him to retire. If the Steelers choose not to retain him, he is free to try the free-agent market. It’s a multi-million-dollar business, and those are the business realities. No one understands that better than Hines.

The reason why they are restructuring contracts is due to the fact of drafting quality players on a regular basis! If you only have a handful of decent players you have to reward financially, then it would be quite easy for any gm to stay under the cap. The real challenge is managing the cap when you have multiple big name stars that you want to keep together!

What else I got? First of all Colbert didn’t draft Hines Ward! Secondly, Ozzie has drafted very good players in later rounds..not all of them have made the Pro Bowl..but here’s a few that did. Bart Scott, Ovie Mughelli, Le’ron McClain, AND Derek Anderson.

Stupidity runs rampant here as usual.

Let me clarify what will happen for those incapable of following closely.

1) Steelers always keep their ascending stars. Besides having the best stats at the 3 yr mark of of any active WR in theNFL (better even than Calvin, Andre, or Fitz), Mike is the fastest #1WR in the league and provides the added benefit of requiring deep help on every mid-to-long pass play…which opens up the O for everyone else. (Mike provides the exact ingredient missing from the Pats this yr). He’s a good soldier, he’s durable, and he has plenty of upside even though he was voted as a Pro Bowl starter his 3rd year.

2) Steelers will tender Mike a “fair offer”…say $7 -7.5 mil per yr. They will then let the market determine Mike’s current value… and match the best offer unless the deal is so front-loaded that they can’t make it work.

~ 95% chance Mike remains a Steeler

The one thing everyone is forgetting is the cap is going to go up significantly in the near future. Not sure if anyone has heard but there was this little TV that just went down not too long ago. Bottom line, the Steelers will have plenty of time to get underneath the cap in the future with the newly adjusted cap that will change within a year or so. Wallace & Brown will stay in black & gold.

The salary cap situation hasn’t hurt the steelers at all if you think about it. They don’t sign high level free agents, only roster fillers. They are going to resign who they need to and if by chance they do lost Wallace they will get a first round pick so it’s not a total loss. Plus the vets that will be cut should be.

Rice – 2nd
Reed – 1st
Ngata – 1st
Grubbs – 1st
Yanda – 3rd
Suggs – 1st

Any good GM should hit on first and second round picks. Its the ones that are made later in the draft that show how good a GM truly is.

Ward – 6th
Wallace – 3rd
Brown – 6th
Kiesel – 6th
Smith – 4th
Taylor – 4th
Harrison – undrafted

With the exception of Ike Taylor every one of those guys is a Pro Bowler and/or a Hall of Famer.

And yes, Joe Flacco the guy who fumbled the ball away twice (2008 in Pitt and last year in Balt) leading to game winning TDs and threw a pick 6 to Troy at the end of the 2008 AFFC game.

I love Brett Keisel but for the person who said he is going to be in the hall of fame is being a bit absurd. Keisel is a good player but no one would no much about him today if it weren’t for his beard.

And, you certainly can’t put Wallace and Brown in in the hall of fame yet. They have to do what they are doing for the next 10 seasons and injuries are an unpredictable thing.

Aaron Smith could become a HOFer. I think he will struggle to get in for many years, but I think writers will eventually point out how he was a 3-4 DE and led a strong run defense for a decade.

Ward, Big Ben, Polamalu and Harrison are the only current players to have punched their tickets in.

Yes, we need OL more than WR. What good is a deep threat if your QB is flat on his back 30% of the time. Two first rounders to put some beef in front of Ben, Brown is more versatile with routes and field coverage especially if Ben has more time. How long can Wallace possess that speed anyway ? Once his age diminishes his speed, he won’t be a Hines Ward type anyway at that point.
It may be a silver lining for him to go.

First of all, If Colbert was the BEST GM the Steelers wouldn’t be in the position that they’re in right now. A GM’s job is to not only put the best players on the football field, but also manage the cap, and not jeopordize the teams future. Ozzie has drafted just as many Pro Bowl players as Colbert..if not more, and if a couple plays had of gone differently..the Ravens could possibly have 2-3 championships right now. Ozzie and Colbert don’t play on the football field, so judging their success solely off of wins and losses isn’t fair.

Wrong! They are managing the cap. They are restructuring contracts, which they have always done and will always continue to do. Provide a link showing that they have drafted equal numbers of Pro Bowlers. If not for a couple plays, the Steelers might have 2-3 more championships than they do. Ozzie and Colbert don’t play, but they ASSEMBLE THE ROSTER. Your last statement is patently absurd. It’s more than fair.

i swear i was thinking the same thing. i know he’s fast and all, but obviously teams were able to do something about that during the latter half of the season, not to mention his drops late in the year. not that i would be shocked if someone offered him a reasonable deal at 3,4,5 and maybe 6 per, but he isnt getting top 5 money so why franchise him, that would be stupid and shortsighted IMO…unless it’s just temporary so we can buy time to structure a deal…i think we’ll be good either way
