Eagles’ 2012 “to-do” list

Now that today’s PFT Live is in the books, capped with the latest two-pack of to-do lists (Raiders and Chargers), I can paste into this space the last of the to-do lists from Thursday.

Here’s what the Eagles should do in order to achieve a better outcome than the disappointing outcome they realized in 2012.

Getting a new head coach and/or a new defensive coordinator would have been at the top of the list, if we’d been doing this back in early January.

    1. Brag about regular season wins over the Giants (again)
    2. Not win the Super Bowl (again)

Eagles to-do list fully realized and accomplished!

They are getting a new coach… The team is all pitching in and getting Andy Nutrisystem he should be 80 lbs lighter by the 8th game this season.

  3. lombardihero says: Feb 24, 2012 1:29 PM

Oh and in the CBA contract it’s $495.00 for every pound a player is overweight maybe Andy could put some money in that jar….

ughh,,,, it seems like the beginning of the offseason is the only time an eagles fan can have any hope. . before free agency, before the draft..

we can dream about moving asante for a great LB, we can dream about drafting a 6’4 350 lb DT we can dream about drafting like the Steelers do..

but when its all said and done, none of these dreams come to fruition,, we draft like the LA Dodgers & asante will still be cherping on the sidelines..

    GO BIRDS.

Get rid of the deadweight on the roster, and get rid of the offensive line coach turned defensive coordinator. He had to be the worst coach in the NFL in the last few years. Lock up the playmakers like DeSean and rebuild the offensive line.

First thing’s first, sign Edwards which leads to number 2….getting rid of Vince Young. He coined the dream team phrase for the Eagles and elevated unnecessary extra pressure on a team where the expectations were already high enough.

At the top of the list….

    1. Trademark – Dream Team II
    2. Sit back and watch the fun begin

    Draft a Linebacker
    Draft a Linebacker
    Free Agent Linebacker (Curtis Lofton)
    Draft a Safety
    Draft a Safety
    Draft a Big DT
    Sign DeSean
    Extend LeSean

granadafan, I don’t think the Eagles really have deadweight on their roster, save Brandon Graham and maybe Asante. Their problem is more they have $400,000 players starting on defense playing like $400,000 players. Obviously, you could argue Vick makes too much, but that’s not really an option.

Get some players in the middle of that defense.

No tackles, no linebackers and no safeties = no run defense.

I’m a Steelers fan, so I have no love for Philly, but they will be very hard to beat if they could get some play makers in the middle of that defense and keep Vick healthy.

Tag and trade DeSean Jackson. Then address the holes in the middle of the defense, and add some more depth on the offensive line. I believe the Eagles were one of the teams really hurt last season by the lockout. This team didn’t really have good chemistry. With a full season under there belt and a full offseason to work together this team will be back in 2012.

    1. Wouldn’t have minded the firing of Castillo, but the bottom line is that the blood’s on Reid’s hands for making a guy who has no previous defensive coaching experience in charge of a defense with Super Bowl aspirations in a lockout-shortened training camp. Don’t have a problem giving the guy a full off-season to work with his personnel.

    2. How about instead of locking up DeSean, we shift focus to potentially acquiring a wide receiver with some size, either through trading DeSean for a player/pick or using a draft pick? Sick of these little guys.

    3. Rebuild the offensive line? Hardly. The team committed to Jason Kelce as starting center, and he had a very strong second half. Jason Peters is one of the best left tackles in football, Danny Watkins figured it out midseason last year and played exceptionally, and Herremans is a stud when he plays his natural position at RT. That leaves left guard, at which Evan Mathis was widely regarded as one of the best bang-for-buck, linemen in football last year. (ProFootballFocus went as far as rating him as the best LT in the NFL last year, an honor I’d probably give to Joe Thomas, but still.) They need to resign him, no need for rebuild.

Well if the Eagles do not franchise then the to do list should have on it “get a veteran WR. “

…and tell Lurie and Banner to say nothing. Each year they feel the need to proclaim something stupid.

Ha! The first thing on the To Do List is a Do Not and also not a peep about the lack of safety? Maybe its because the To Do List is a little longer than usual for this off season.

  16. kspells12345 says: Feb 24, 2012 4:51 PM

To me, the first “TO DO” begins with a change in draft philosophy:

    1. STOP drafting these “high-motor” undersized guys. Sick of seeing these guys get drafted that CANT PLAY (see Teo-Neisheim, Daniel) or just flat out stink (see Matthews, Clay)

    2. STOP taking guys that were stars in college but suffered devastating injuries (see Sapp, Ricky, and Ingram, Cornelius)

    3. STOP being so arrogant. The Giants have drafted circles around us for the past 5 years. We wouldn’t have had to get so many free agents if we could actually draft well, especially on defense.

    4. STOP taking so many choirboys “high character” guys. You need a few enforcers on each team. Get some players with some edge, with a chip on their shoulder. Look at the Giants – they have players that play with that chip.

And this is from an Eagles fan.

Move Asante to free safety Starter and let him roam. (remember what the 49ers did with Merton Hanks)
Draft Poe the big DT from Memphis
Pick up Hayneworth (he will play for washburn)
    Pick up Tullock
    Cut Teo, Juqua,
Put Nate Allen and Brandon Graham on a short leash.
    SS -Jarrett, Coleman compete
Draft (2) DE’s to compete with Trent Cole (he always runs outta gas towards end of season)

Offense– Bring in Plax for Size and attitude Franchise Djax for 1yr to see how he responds.
    Extend Shady
Keep O line Like it is.
Bring in another Veteran WR (Maybe Moss or Colston) — More weapons/Decoys.
    RUN THE DAM BALL!!!!
