Because every single time you come on to comment about an article, you bash Vikings fans and it makes you look even more like the cousin-dating fudge packers fan that can’t do anything except for gloat about championships that you will never even DREAM about winning because you’re too busy sitting in your mother’s basement. Driver has the most realistic view of his changing role as player as I have ever seen.

Even if he is never the goto guy again, he will always be a value as the second or third option on the field. But perhaps he will be the most value as a mentor to the guys coming up. Might want to look into apprenticing him to the offensive coaching staff as an assistant receiver’s coach/player.

He is a guy that you want in the organization somehow. In any way you can.

Besides, I want to keep seeing his great commercials. I wish they would bring back the McDonald’s commercial where they had him trying on his wife’s earrings. “Donald! I’m home!”

Donald Driver is a class act, still catches what’s thrown to him, and has gone above and beyond the calling both on and off the field. God bless you Donald. Hope you are on the field in 2012. Also hope when you go, you go out w/ GB, and they retire #80. (sorry j. lofton)

Love Chad Clifton, but the tank looks pretty much empty. Driver might be the fifth best receiver on the team next year, but he’s a guy I don’t worry about getting the dropsies.

Driver is the Hines Ward of the Packers, very similar situation, it will be interesting to see what happens with both of them. Driver can still play, it’s just that his team has so much depth, but I think Ward is done.

Best wishes to Clifton. He was a solid stalwart in the OL and his 2 Pro Bowl appearance were well deserved.

I hope Driver is offered a position with the Pack passed his retirement. Donald should fined himself on the Ring of Honor.

I’d like to see them keep Clifton at a reduced rate as an insurance policy, but I don’t think that role suits him, he needs to keep active. If they do release him, he’s been a great Packer and anchor on the left for many years, thank you, Chad. As for Driver, I think the plan is to have him have one more year and mentor Cobb. He’s there for the locker room leadership, almost sort of a player coach. If he does come back, my guess is he’s told this is it.

Clifton had a great career but missing him for the majority of last season proved that they were ok and that its time to move on.

Driver will be kept around primarily for his leadership. Definitely somebody I can see in a coaching position in a few years, whether it be with the packers or somewhere else.

A lot of this has to do with the positions they play. It probably isn’t that unusual for the #2 left tackle on a team to not ever see the field during a season, or rarely. Therefore, Clifton likely doesn’t fit as a backup as he ages. If he’s not a starter, he probably isn’t much use to a team and takes up a spot that can be used to develop young talent. However, a #5 wide receiver, particularly in the packers offense, will still see a dozen snaps per game. Driver can be tucked away at number 5 and there is still room for two backups ahead of him. Additionally, Driver fills a valuable role on the team in the all important onside kick recovery team.

It is very difficult to make the Packers football team and difficult to stay good enough to be a Green Bay Packer.

There are former Packers throughout the league good enough to be in the NFL but not good enough to be a Packer.

Hats off to Cliffy. He’s had a very good career and been a stand up guy on and off the field. It’s too bad he wasn’t able to stay on the field more these past few years, but we wish you well in retirement Cliffy!

Thruought Driver’s career, he’s been the epitomy of class and professionalism. Great character. Great work ethic. Great team player. He’s one of the few in the game who’s ego is not bigger than his ability. He may be on the decline, but I do hope he’s able to stick with the Packers until he’s ready to enjoy the wealth he’s earned for himself later in life. Going to miss his positive attitude and smile when he does decide to call it quits.

They re-signed Clifton in 2010 off-season to make one more run at a SB and they got it out of him. He’s been a great player and a great competitor but I think it’s time to hang ‘em up.
