Michael Brockers is one of draft’s wild cards

Every team is looking for huge defensive linemen with freakish athleticism. The next Jason Pierre-Paul.

Michael Brockers of LSU has a very different skill set than JPP, but he’s in the same mold as a talented player that didn’t have ideal production before turning pro.

Silva wrote how Brockers’ measurements turned heads at the Combine Saturday. Brockers didn’t put up big stats in school, but some analysts believe he could get drafted in the top ten in April.  Brockers tried to explain his lack of numbers.

Being a big guy like I am, I attract a lot of double teams. . . . Our defense, we do a lot of slanting and let blitzers come off the edge. I feel like I played my part in the defense being a force in the middle on first and second downs and getting us to third down situations,” Brockers said.

Brockers said he feels more comfortable at the “three technique” than nose tackle. But he also pointed out that he played all over the LSU defensive line and could take any role at the pro level from nose tackle to five technique to a defensive end in a 3-4 defense.

Brockers bulked up to 322 pounds, but he said they were “good pounds, not the pound pounds.”

“I feel like at 322, I can move a lot better than some other guys can move,” Brockers said. “I’m just blessed to have this body frame and still be quick with it.I’ll be a perfect fit wherever they want to put me.”

Some team is going to fall in love with Brockers and take him very high. He looks like this draft’s classic boom-or-bust pick.

This guy has the perfect build for 5 technique and he just doesn’t know it.

For some reason, I feel like it will be the panthers. They rolled the dice with an athletic freak of nature last year, why not again? I personally hope Morris Claiborne is available instead though.

The top 10 this year is really underwhelming.

Scouts and NFL personel people better rely on film, not body type me how much weight he lifts. Vernon Gholston didn’t bust a grape in college yet ca to this event and wowed. Don’t fall for it, the eye in the sky don’t lie

If the Rams trade down with the Redskins at #6, it wouldn’t surprise me if Brockers is the pick at 6. Jeff Fisher is a big DL guy, and Brockers is similar to Haynesworth (14th over pick of the Titans in 2002).

In a draft with this few stars, getting a player with Brockers’ upside AND an extra 1st and 2nd rounder? I’d have to say that’s better than getting Blackmon or Kalil.

I haven’t heard anyone say what it would take to move up to get RGIII look what it took to move up to get Jones.
