Truer words never spoken. I would bet my life now that Thompson is going to franchise (sign-and-trade) Flynn.

The source of this alleged ‘report’ is nothing more han a butt-kissing lackey for Aaron Rodgers, and has no credibility or clout with Packers brass, or in the state of Wisconsin. I would more strongly trust Matt Flynn’s mother’s objectivity than this ‘reporter’ on anything related to the Packers…

Ridiculous. There are probably 15 teams out there that don’t have a serviceable STARTING quarterback. Not having a quality backup does not leave them in a “bad spot”. It just leaves them in a less good spot. Realistically, any team that loses their starting QB is done for the year, anyway. Period, amen. If you don’t believe me, talk to a Bears fan.

Miami would have to pay Flynn $14.5M for that year. They can’t void that contract without making Flynn a free agent. Flynn can agree to another contract, but it would not change the one year $14.5 contract.

Teams don’t get to choose between 120% of the player’s previous salary OR the average of the top 5 at their position. It is automatically the highest of the two. Since 120% of $600K is less than $14.5M, the franchise tag would require a one year $14.5M offer.

If he starts the whole seson with that team, count on it being at least a 4th. If he has any success with them, Packers will get max compensation (3rd round).

Imagine what he could get for a quarterback that could be someone’s frontline starter for years ???

Matt is gonna do fine, especially if he goes to Miami, where they’ll be running the west coast style offense; this is the type of offense best suited for quarterbacks who can think quickly.

Unless they plan on signing a FA QB, they will have to use a draft pick and pay the guy they are drafting. At pick 8 or 9 they are rolling the dice that the QB they favor will be gone.

GB doesn’t need to come out of this thing like a bandit, a measly swap of first round picks or a 2nd round pick straight up would suffice, IMO.

Im sure that GB will not tag him until they are sure they have a trading partner.

The Packers are really in a bad spot when he leaves, with no quality backup QB behind Rodgers. Time for Thompson to do what he does very well and find another backup QB who can step in and succeed.

Seattle has the cap space and a young team to grow up with Mr. Flynn. Besides you will love the Great Northwest.

Actually beer is 50% wrong. The pack can make flynn a “non-exclusive” franchise player and can negotiate with other clubs by offering flynn 120% of his salary, which was 500-600k in 2011.

However, the pack can match a new club’s offer, or receive two first-round draft choices if it decides not to match.

Thus, flynn’s suitor would have to give the pack two first-round draft choices.

If there is something in the cba that you can point out to us that the two first-round draft choices rule can be superseded, please provide us with the link.

The pack could just offer flynn 120% of his measly salary and keep him since nobody will give up two first-round draft choices for him.

You might as well offer the picks to the rams for rg3.

Either way it is a dead point because Miami will either sign Manning as a FA or Flynn as a FA. There will be no trades.

.. Especially considering the D needs a partial overhaul.

I’d certainly rather have a guy who threw for 800 yards and 9 TD’s in two NFL starts (Flynn) versus the Leafs, Couches, McNowns, Akili Smiths, Mirers, Shulers, Klinglers and Wares of the world. Rookie QB’s are the biggest crapshoot of all.

• The salary level offer by a player’s old club determines what type of franchise player he is.

• An “exclusive” franchise player — not free to sign with another club — is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries at the player’s position as of April 16, or 120 percent of the player’s previous year’s salary, whichever is greater.

• If the player is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries of last season at his position, or 120 percent of the player’s previous year’s salary, he becomes a “non-exclusive” franchise player and can negotiate with other clubs. His old club can match a new club’s offer, or receive two first-round draft choices if it decides not to match. The signing period for non-exclusive franchise players to sign with new clubs is March 3 through November 9 (10th week of the season).

Thus the dolphins would have to pay flynn $14.7M and give up 2 number 1s.

If ross agrees to this, he should betaken away in a strait jacket.

Also, this would not be the first time Thompson has tagged a player and traded them for compensation. Corey Williams received the tag and got shipped to Cleveland in 2008.

Tagging and trading Flynn make the most sense this year. Trading Flynn give the Packers another pick or two to use in this draft. Losing Flynn to free agency does not help this team. The highest compensatory pick is at the end of the third round and would be paid in next year’s draft. This move does not help the Packers this season.
