The Bears are believed to have as much as $28 million in 2012 salary cap space. Whatever the number, they now have $1.9 million more.

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears have cut defensive tackle Anthony Adams. The nine-year veteran was due to earn $1.9 million in 2012, the final year of his contract.

Adams started 16 regular-season games and both postseason games in 2010. He also was named a recipient of the team’s annual Brian Piccolo Award, along with tackle J’Marcus Webb.

Last year, Adams had only 11 appearances and four starts.

Because he’s a vested veteran, Adams immediately becomes a free agent. Like cornerback Stanford Routt, who signed last week with the Chiefs after being cut by the Raiders, Adams doesn’t have to wait until March 13 at 4:00 p.m. to join a new team.
