This move makes sense; he is simply the odd man out of the group which includes Toeaina, Paea and Melton.

But judging by the reactions of beat writers and players, his humor, leadership and candor will be missed in the locker room.

Not surprised by the move. He was being edged out and on the wrong side of 30. There’s no point to pay for Adams to be your 3rd or 4th DT when you can find someone to fill a similar role for far cheaper. Toeaina and Paea should be fine on the nose for them.

I think the general assumption is that they’ll keep Forte at all costs and then go after a vet WR (Jackson seems like the hot name to be tied to them), but do they go after another big ticket item beyond that? I’ll be curious what their decision is on Idonije. They really don’t have much depth, as Wootton still hasn’t shown enough. If they let Idonije go, my guess is that they are going to splurge on a FA defensive end … but two high ticket defensive ends seem awfully costly, particularly if you go after a WR and have to sign Forte down.

Adams can still play, though. He’d be a nice depth guy for some teams.

There’s this move and also talk about restructuring Cutler and Briggs to make more cap space now.

Sounds like they’re trying to free up as much money as possible to take care of Forte and whatever big free agents they bring into town.

Very strange. I thought Adams played well in ’09 and ’10. They have hopes for Paea but still – a solid veteran that fits the scheme for little cap room? Strange. I guess they’re doing him a solid but I’m surprised.
