APThe Buccaneers claim that they’re finally willing to spend on players. As it turns out, they’ll have to spend a little extra on their new coach, first.
Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports that the Buccaneers have paid $500,000 to Rutgers for the privilege of hiring coach Greg Schiano. The amount comes from Schiano’s contract with Rutgers, which required payment of $500,000 if he left before December 31, 2016.
Schiano, who spent 11 seasons as head coach of the Scarlet Knights, also reportedly owes Rutgers $300,000 for a home loan. It’s unknown whether he or the Buccaneers will be responsible for paying that amount.

So, on top of the millions they’re likely to pay Schiano to coach, the Bucs could forfeit up to an additional $800,000 to Rutgers? Really? He’s worth that much?
Sets the market for used college coachs.
this doesn’t look cheap at all. rutgers pays the mortgage, and butch davis hires the rest of the coaching staff with his UNC allowance.
Why would the Bucs be responsable for his personal home loan?
Bought a man for a half million dollars? I thought that sort of thing ended when the Civil War was over?

Your name says it all.
The $500,000 is above what they are paying Schiano, for those who don’t get it.

Let’s hope he is worth it! GO BUCS!
Seems like a bargain after the last POS they hired.
