Everyone hates you, that’s why your team gets penalized and the others don’t. It has nothing to do with the fact that your coach actually talked to the players agent and the player while he was still under contract. Not even a little bit. It’s just because we hate you. That is all.

If they want to get serious about this they should start penalizing members of the press that ask questions designed to elicit answers that qualify as tampering.

Except for the fact that:

1) coaches are NFL employees and have to live under NFL rules and

2) the press work for other individuals at set their own rules and haven’t agreed to the NFL rules.

I think I like the fact that the press get to ask what they like and the NFL’s employees have to follow the NFL’s rules (like they signed up for). I guess in Soviet Russia the press follows the newsmaker’s rules

Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel committed an apparent violation of the tampering rules by telling the media on Friday that he “would be crazy not to consider [Peyton Manning] if he’s available.”

That’s the problem Mike, he didn’t say “Peyton Manning” even though you keep wanting to change his words to prove your point. He was speaking in general, saying “with a talent like that”. That’s why it’s not tampering and probably why the Colts aren’t bothering with it.

This whole ‘tampering’ rule seems pretty stupid. It is selectively enforced and covers some really stupid stuff. They really need to decide what they really want to prohibit and rewrite the rule accordingly.

So the press asks a coach a question:

“Would you be interested in having one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL play for you next year?”

And the coach gives the only answer a human being with a brain in his head and Matt Cassel as his QB would give, and he needs to penalized?

If that is true, then the only thing we should be talking about here is how badly that stupid rule needs to be changed.

Even if the Colts did have reason to believe and even proof of tampering, it just shows that the falling out between Peyton and them is irreparable. The Colts want someone to pick up Peyton.

An ” innocuous statement” is what got Gunther and the Lions penalized! This is EXACTLY the same type of situation…….why paint this as anything but tampering? By the rules and by the way they were applied to the Lions, this without a doubt should be penalized the same!

If it is such a clear cut rule, no matter how lame of a rule it is, it simply should be enforced and KC should be penalized. Seems pretty clear-cut to me.
