APThe Giants have two free agent cornerbacks that have started a lot of games for them: Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross.
One of them is coming off a torn ACL. That’s the one the Giants reportedly prefer to keep.
Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News writes that New York appears to prefer Thomas, which makes sense considering his track record. I spoke to one NFL source at the Combine that opined Thomas would be close to the top of this free agent cornerback market with Cortland Finnegan and Brandon Carr if not for his torn ACL.
While that’s a big “if,” at least Thomas hurt the knee before the season. He’s only 27 years old and you may get a high quality starting cornerback for years at a reduced price, even if Thomas isn’t back to his normal self early in the 2012 campaign.

he was on the verge of being a star before the injury
of course they do.. the kid can straight ball.
Thomas will probably be the cheaper option as well. Despite his spotty play Ross may see decent ‘starter level’ offers.
T2 is the man!
When healthy, this guy is arguably our best and most consistent corner.
Aaron Ross improved a lot this season as a starter compared to last season when he was only used in nickel packages, but if Terrell Thomas is healthy, he’s clearly the better choice.
Ross is a liability in every way.
Bruce Johnson is better than Ross.
Let Ross go ASAP.
Thomas is an easy decision to re-sign. Webster is a solid CB1, and Prince will be expected to have a strong year. They still could use another CB for depth though (maybe sign a veteran)
Thomas is clearly the better player, if healthy. Kudos to Ross though, he did a great job as starter this season.
He could’ve been signed elsewhere????
I thought he tore his ACL!!!
Disagree. This is Thomas’ 2nd ACL. Ross played all season and just got through his first 4 injury-filled years in the NFL to finally reach the sweet spot of his career. He’s a 2x SB champ and was a good compliment to Webster. If anything, Thomas should come back on a Steve Smith prove-it type contract.
In a pass heavy league, Webster, Amukamara, and Thomas could present a real problem for opposing QBs. Mediocre LBs become far less of a problem if you have a great pass rush and coverage CBs.
Gotta keep T2. Let Ross walk, too expensive for what he gives. Time to give Amukamara the keys. I like a backfield of Webster, Prince, and T2, and I REALLY like it with a great pass rush.
I’d like to see Justin Tryon come back too. Talk about effort…
