Giants look to keep Terrell Thomas

The Giants have two free agent cornerbacks that have started a lot of games for them: Terrell Thomas and Aaron Ross.

One of them is coming off a torn ACL. That’s the one the Giants reportedly prefer to keep.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News writes that New York appears to prefer Thomas, which makes sense considering his track record. I spoke to one NFL source at the Combine that opined Thomas would be close to the top of this free agent cornerback market with Cortland Finnegan and Brandon Carr if not for his torn ACL.

While that’s a big “if,” at least Thomas hurt the knee before the season. He’s only 27 years old and you may get a high quality starting cornerback for years at a reduced price, even if Thomas isn’t back to his normal self early in the 2012 campaign.
