Cardinals to face Saints in Hall of Fame game

As expected, the Saints will play in the 2012 Hall of Fame game.  As not expected, they’ll face the Cardinals on the evening of August 6.

The league announced the pairing on Wednesday afternoon.

For the Cardinals, it’s their first visit to Canton since 1986.  At the time, they were playing in St. Louis.

Last year, there was no Hall of Fame game, due to the lockout.

The Cardinals are a bit unexpected because they have no connection to any of the men who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  But the Cardinals have one likely future Hall of Famer in Larry Fitzgerald, and there’s a chance they’ll get another one under contract by then.

You know, a guy who plays quarterback.

Huh, surprised the Steelers weren’t the other team (Dawson and Butler).

You don’t have to be so coy. I know you’re talking about me.

The “lucky” winners get to play 5 Preseason games, which is about 3 too many.

    jake2,
Both teams shold play 5 preseason games, so the fans should get 2 home preseason games. Those fans re surely very happy about that.

I mean, it’s cool that the Saints will be playing the first preseason game of the 2012-13 season but…it’s still just preseason, and the first preseason game is pretty much like a scrimmage with how many scrubs will be playing and how loose/sloppy the play on the field will be.

Hard to ever get excited about a preseason game.

No way the NFL let’s you off that easy. That one is on top of the regularly scheduled 4 preseason insomnia fixers.

The Cardinals are no cream puff team. They play hard and they are not an easy win for no team. Watch for them in the playoffs even if they dont get Peyton.

So they want the Cards there because they think PM is going to AZ huh….? Ohh… did I let the cat outta the bag…? Shet…!

  19. cardsfann1 says: Feb 29, 2012 4:30 PM

Cards will be a solid team this year. They learned a lot about themselves on defense last year and offense will be much better with some stability at qb…

  20. richardhurtz says: Feb 29, 2012 4:31 PM

Does that mean high school hero John Lott will be on the side lines screaming at everyone and waving his arms like he is having a stroke for the “big game” or will they just leave that d-bag in the locker room with the equipment?

  21. goawayeverybody says: Feb 29, 2012 4:32 PM

By the Hall of Fame game, it could very well be Drew Brees of the Arizona Cardinals if the Saints don’t pull their heads out of their butts and give Brees the money he deserves!

i don’t understand the fascination with signing Peyton Manning as a free agent. Was he one of the greatest QBs of all time? Absolutely. But he has nerve damage in his neck/arm and no one is sure if he’s healthy…and he hasn’t played in a long time. You’d think if he was the answer the Colts would keep him.

  24. stairwayto7 says: Feb 29, 2012 5:02 PM

Must be talking about John Skelton as the QB!

I cant believe the nfl actually scheduled a semi-primetime game that doenst involve the cowgirls, steelers, giants, or packers

  28. deadeye says: Feb 29, 2012 5:36 PM

This game of course is commemorating the first two teams to ever lose to the Buccaneers.

  29. nflfollower says: Feb 29, 2012 5:49 PM

This is not even a semi primetime game. It’s the preseason. Naming it the HOF game does a disservice to the hall of fame. Name the first regular season game the HOF game. And yes, I recognize you could never play a regular season game at that site.

Its the first pro game of the year (even though pre season) with a fancy name at a prime spot with a nationally televised audience that everyone will watch (at least the 1st qt, maybe series).

Only reason I didnt call it primetime is because its preseason.

    Dont be an a-hole.

This will be an interesting game IF Peyton ends up in Arizona.

  33. grhopper says: Feb 29, 2012 10:48 PM

Unless the NFL all of a sudden becomes the NBA as far as dictating where free agents can go and/or voiding trades, what makes you think QB?
Are you suggesting the NFL is tampering with itself…just for TV ratings? They wouldn’t dare.
