My understanding was Polian was purposely preparing the roster and salary cap to leverage for the 2011 season – Mathis would’ve had none with about 9 sacks on a 2 win team, playing on a defense with its starters mostly on IR – the same with Wayne trying to get leverage a season in which Curtis painter was throwing him the ball. With a new coach he now had leverage that was t there – mainly how he “might” fit in.

It’s just unfortunate football is not like stock – in which people like buffet and polian amass billions and record wins, but like slavery, in which case you could be the most of a man and wisest of the wise, but the end result is determined by the ebbs and inpulsions of a non investor owner with an artistic bent and record for lack if self restraint.

Consolation? He’s out produced Williams for far less money.

If Williams can play as a stand up linebacker Mathis can too – he’s faster.
