As expected, Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas is testifying in the rape case against former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox.
And things got very interesting while Thomas was on the stand. According to Gregory Nieto of FOX 31 in Denver, Cox’s lawyer requested a mistrial based on one of the answers given.
Thomas told the jury that, after Cox carried the alleged victim to his bedroom, Cox said to Thomas, “I think she’s ready.” (The request for a mistrial was denied.)
Cox is accused of having sex with the alleged victim after she passed out in his apartment. Making Thomas’ testimony more credible is the fact that it makes him look bad. He previously told police that Cox suggested having sex with the alleged victim after she passed out. And then Thomas fell asleep on the couch.
The fact that Thomas apparently knew that’s exactly what Cox intended to do -- and that’s what Cox apparently (or at least allegedly) did -- almost makes him look like an accomplice.
UPDATE 7:11 p.m. ET: An account of the testimony more thorough that the Nieto tweet appears at the Denver Post website. Thomas said he responded to Cox by saying, “Nah. I don’t think so.” Also, Cox’s lawyer requested a mistrial because the testimony was different from the information prosecutors provided before trial.
