Getty ImagesThe Bears made the release of defensive lineman Anthony Adams official on Thursday. They also cut tackle Frank Omiyale while they were at it.
Omiyale wasn’t previously reported, but the news doesn’t come as a shock. He is part of the ever-struggling rotation of Bears offensive linemen and was benched early in 2011. Omiyale started at three positons and appeared in every Bears game over the last three seasons.
The moves save $2.5 million in cap space and might only be the beginning of Chicago’s transformation on both lines. These are the first moves under new Bears general manager Phil Emery. We expect the Bears to be quite aggressive in free agency.

The revolving door is gone!
About time.
Maybe know the bears will start bring free agents in during the season to create competition, and let players know things have changed in the Windy City…. Go Bears somewhere Jay is doing shots with his buddies after hearing Frank is gone.
Two seasons past due in my opinion
Two years and 6 million dollars too late….
A sad day for the Defensive Linemen of the NFC North….
Who?
Hmm… first Anthony Adams and now Omiyale. I think the Bears will try to make a big splash in free agency.
It’s not such a bad day after all.
1 Jerry Angelo mistake down about 10 to 15 to go.
I just rocked back out of my stance too early as a celebration tribute at work
I thumbs-up’d every comment in support of him being cut.
Dang. And I got a Frank Omiyale jersey for Christmas!
Cutler is smiling
You go Phil, It’s about time.
Did they really cut him or was it just another false start? LOL. Good riddance.Maybe now we can actually have an opening drive free from procedure penalties and false starts. No big loss.
When I watched the Bears sign him from Carolinas’ bench I shook my head. Where is Mark Bortz when you need him.
False-Start Frank is gone! Good riddance!
Yank Omifail sucks.
