Cross out one potential mystery team for Griffin

Robert Griffin III AP

Rams COO Kevin Demoff told SI.com’s Peter King that a team “you would never expect” has contacted St. Louis about a possible trade up to the No. 2 overall pick.

Buffalo, who holds the tenth pick, is not that mystery team.

“It is absolute. It’s a no,” Bills G.M. Buddy Nix told Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com. “You’ve got to give up the farm. We’re not in that business.”

So the Bills expect to remain in the tenth spot.  Nix has identified three areas they could go with the selection.

We’re guessing that some sort of pass rush help is one of the three possibilities.

Or perhaps all three.

In other words, we prefer not to spend any money.

Regardless to being a die hard bills fan… You cannot make this statement nix until after free agency. Perhaps we get a stud de and wr come march 17… Then the plan changes and I supporter selling the farm for rg3. But if we sleep on FA, as usual, then it’s live or die by the draft. Usually die. Ughhh.

No Buddy Nix, Mr. GM, for a long time the Bills have been in the irrelevant business, and the “I just paid a gazzillion dollars to Ryan Fitzpatrick” business. Much better businesses than “giving up the farm” for Mike Vick with character.

  13. luckynumberlucas says: Mar 1, 2012 7:40 PM

    The Pats maybe?

Of the teams you’d never expect, the Pats seem logical to me.

Eli is in his prime, Rodgers too, Flacco and Roethlisberger also, Smith just had kinda a breakout year, Stafford is developing nicely and Brees just played one of the best seasons ever by a QB.

But Brady is getting older and they need to think about the future, still I can’t really imagine Belichick trading up from 31 to 2.

The other team could be the Texans who have the hometown bonus…

  14. ravensfan4life52 says: Mar 1, 2012 7:41 PM

I still think it might be the Saints. It’s the last team besides the Pats that anyone would ever think of.

The mystery team is the Steelers if they can move Ben(of field problems and injuries and just plain getting older across the board) the Rooneys want NO problem players and Ben embarrassed them with his actions off the field they wanted to move him when it happened and they got NO takers they are hoping that won’t happen this time.

  18. alexr5111 says: Mar 1, 2012 7:50 PM

I don’t think you cross them off the list because of this. What’s the mystery team going to say? “Hmmmm…maayyyyybe…”. The reason they’re a mystery team is because no one thinks they really need a QB, they aren’t going to let it out that they’re trying to trade up for Griffin because then they’re screwed if they don’t get him.

  22. ajschn06 says: Mar 1, 2012 7:53 PM

There are only 3 teams that have a possibility of making this trade. The Browns in the drivers seat if they fall in love with Griff and are convinced that STL will trade the pick. The Redskins not far behind because, well, they’re the Redskins. Number 3 is the Dolphins if they can’t get Flynn. Nobody else in the top 8 needs to mortgage their picks for a QB, and anywhere beyond that is too far for the Rams to move down….

We don’t have a first round pick so how can we possibly get the no. 2 pick from StL. We have already have a franchise QB that still has about another 6 years left in him and another SB or two to win. Chase Daniel isn’t a bad backup either and would be an upgrade over some teams current QB’s like Washington, Seattle, and Cleveland.

1, 2, &5th and 1 next year along with Miami 1st this year.

  41. johng63011 says: Mar 1, 2012 8:33 PM

I’m going to say the Chiefs. No one seems happy with Cassel, and they’re a team that believes they’re a player away from a superbowl, however given what they have on that team and that they were a 7 win team without 3 of their best players (moeaki, berry, charles)… that could be true.
Trade/cut Cassel but sitting at 11 they could move up to 2 if they’re willing to pay.

  49. theemrsanity says: Mar 1, 2012 9:27 PM

IMO the only trade partner they have is cleveland. First, cleveland keep the Rams high enough to get an impact player. But dont be surprised if its not for Griffin.

Fisher likes athletic, mobile QBs’s ala McNair & Young. Moving Bradford would clear cap space which Cleveland has more of than anyone. They also tried to trade for Bradford two years ago then again last year.

I would think St. Louis fans would be thrilled with Griffin and Blackmon/Claiborne/Kalil.

  55. marcinhouston says: Mar 1, 2012 9:59 PM

Falcons or Steelers. Matt Ryan cannot score in the playoffs with a WR/RB/TE committee that could play in the all pro game, he is not elite, and the Falcons would be wise to move on not lock him up. Steelers need a long term replacement for Big Ben with all the injury and character issues and Griffin would be needed immediately as a fill in for several games his rookie year and would be a great combination with Tomlin and with Mike Wallace’s speed.

  56. bensstinkyfingers says: Mar 1, 2012 10:00 PM

It doesn’t matter, the only 2 teams with the firepower to get it done are Cle. and Was. Welcome to the dawgpound RG

  57. dkrauss93 says: Mar 1, 2012 10:22 PM

I don’t think this will be popular but what about the Jets. I’m a Jet fan and Sanchez believer but if they can get Griffin I say go for it. Now they will have Sanchez and Griffin at the time. I think they will trade Sanchez to the Seahawks to reunite with Pete Carrol (also looking for a franchise QB) and the Jets can get the Seahawks 2nd rd pick this yr or next.

  58. philliesphan says: Mar 1, 2012 10:22 PM

I am an Eagles fan and I hope they take him. I don’t know if he can play in this league or not, but I already know Vick is a mediocre QB who will not win a championship. I will take my chances with RG3, we have a better shot with him.

  59. ravenheath21 says: Mar 1, 2012 10:27 PM

I believe that Miami should take him. They were thinking of Payton Manning but it seems that he will stay in Indy. The Dolphins run a wildcat offense and with his speed and Reggie Bush i see him a perfect fit. Other then them maybe The Rams or the Vikings but they run diffrent styles so i dont see a good fit. Im not a Dolphins fan but i think thats the best fit for the team and him.

  60. cfrs15 says: Mar 1, 2012 10:45 PM

  62. mjc10 says: Mar 1, 2012 10:54 PM

Houston…They could trade Schaub, their defense is solid (and the reason they are winning more), Yates is not long term but could start if he’s not ready, theyre close enough that they don’t need a lot of picks

  63. raideralex99 says: Mar 1, 2012 11:18 PM

Nix could just be blowing smoke to make everyone think they’re not interested. Or maybe the Rams are blowing smoke to drive up the price. One thing I’ve learned is to never trust NFL coaches, GMs, or executives when it comes to anything.
In reality, I doubt its anyone beyond the 10th pick. There’s just no way anyone beyond that point could package enough value to move up that high.

He is a winner and has cleaned up his image! They have an aging team and plenty of other areas to consider:
If teams were smart they would make a deal with the Vikings at #3….. Force st Louis to make a pick, they will have to pick Blackmon or Khalil ….. They could probably save 1-2 picks by making a play at the 3rd overall. No way the rams pick him if nobody plays into their craziness

RG3 would be the perfect QB for a coach like Gailey to work with. You need a REAL QB (no, not Fitzy) to win in the NFL and the Bills should pull out the stops to move up. But… Nix is a eunuch, because Bean-counter Littman and Marketing Major / Ne’er-do-well Brandon actually run the team. For God’s sake Ralph, you greedy old bastard…just effing die and stop the bloodletting of us Bills fans. (Sorry people, but Deal with it. He’s a 93yr old, senile greedy old man. And don’t forget humble…the only stadium in the league to be named after the team’s owner, by the team’s owner. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck….) But, hey…they beat New England TWICE…in 10 years, Woo-freaking-Hooo
