The unremarkable transaction came across the NFL wire on March 27, 2009: Packers signed center/guard Duke Preston. The Packers haven’t signed an unrestricted free agent since.

Preston didn’t exactly work out; he was released during training camp.

Almost three years later, it sounds like the Packers may be willing to tip their toe in free agency. We heard the ever-unreliable Combine buzz that the Packers were interested in a few noteworthy free agents.

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel noted that G.M. Ted Thompson and the Packers have interest in Texans center Chris Myers. McGinn also implies that the Packers won’t necessarily sit out this free agent session.

Until the Packers do jump back into the free agent market, Duke Preston will remain their latest, greatest free agent signing.
