It was me. I said that. Hawk is a “beast”? I don’t even know where to begin with that one. 53 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 0 interceptions, 0 forced fumbles in 2011. Those are not beastly numbers. Have you even watched him since he took off his Ohio State uniform? I defy you to come up with a single game-changing play he has made in the last 2 years.

Packer fans and a few other teams fans almost always get the shaft during this time of year, hopes and dreams get crushed as all the FAs go elsewhere.

Signing a FA or two once in a while is not bad for a team, especially when hes a fit for the role your signing him for and he doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Think of it as, for every UFA you sign, thats one less of your own players you can sign now or in the future.

Philly did well last year in terms of value but that was a strange situation and they took advantage of it, maybe they over did it a little. Didn’t work out too well for them though so far.

All I know is im human and I can’t lie, the thought of The Pack signing a guy like “Super” Mario Williams to help fix the pass rush is exciting but I know theres literally no way its gonna happen and I am ok with that.

This year it would be nice to find a good pass rushing threat DE or OLB in UFA to take some of the pressure off of trying to land a good one in the draft.

Was it wrong to let him go and test FA? No. Not at his age and injury status.

I believe if Cullen had come back to the Pack and said “Eagles offer X – will you match” – Ted would have.

The guy GB REALLY missed was Jolly. He was worth more to that D and pass rush than Cullen was.

As to future FAs and how to build a team – FA is just a label, Ted will get a guy based upon value. FA, UDFA, moving in the draft (Matthews), etc.

Pretty interesting factoid, for sure – any idea what team has gone the next-longest without signing an UFA.

I think you might stretching the truth because everytime you post this I tell you that the Packers like to primarily build through the draft, but will occasionally sign free agents when it makes sense (e.g., Reggie White, Charles Woodson). By the way, can you guess what each of those two signings have in common? Hint: viks don’t have one.

All I’ve heard from Packer fans for the last two years is that the only way to build a team is through the draft and that any team that signs a free agent is trying to take shortcuts that will lead to the eventual doom of the franchise. Now we’ll hear nothing but what a genius Ted Thompson is at signing free agents.

I couldn’t believe my eyes after Bush laid out a guy and stood over him taunting him… the guy by the way, scored a touchdown… I dont know, but the running back did his job, Bush didn’t and you are going to taunt. Get the hell out of GB

The beauty of making ludicrous, baseless statements like this is that nobody will remember you made them in 6 months when they are proven false. And even if they do, you can just change your screen name.

The packers kept the wrong linebacker when they let Barnett go and signed Hawk for big money. They badly misjudged Cullen Jenkins’ value, and their ability to replace him. Now they appear to be on the verge of making the same mistake with Wells.

Incidentally, it’s a mistake they already made once. In 2009, they wrongly believed that Jason Spitz was the better player and benched Wells. Spitz played his way off the team and Wells became a pro bowler. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, I guess.

Some teams do try like the Bucs, but….

I like how the Packers run their business, but with their defense in the shape it’s in, it might not hurt too bad for Ted to look for some good free agents to help fix that defense. Their offense is bolstering and they are loaded with talent, but Rodgers is never going to win another Super Bowl without the held of the other part of the team (Defense) doing their job.
