Play games with Brees and you’ll end up burned. I expected better out of the Saints and hope Brees sees how little he really means to this team.

The Redskins are looking for a quality QB and Brees would be a definite upgrade.

I guess Bree’s forgets he threw 2 interceptions in the playoff game against the 40 whiners.

My “40 whiners” had/still have the best defense in the NFL. It just proves he’s human.

That being said, if the Saints put the tag him and Brees still decides to walk my 49ers will take him AND Colston and go on to win 3 SBs in a row!

Is he a great QB? Yes. Is he a great PERSON, FATHER, AND HUSBAND? ABSOLUTELY!Drew deserves a raise and more. Look at other players who make much more, do they deserve it?

I grew up in Lousiana and did not follow the Saints (because the team was awful) until Drew signed on. Drew has brought us a long way since Katrina and the team needs to stay that way.

I agree with consolecomplaints, etc, the Saints fans who think it’s unwise to spend that much of the cap on one player. I agree that it’s the Payton-Brees dynamic, not one or the other that makes them better. When you have great coaching you can survive better the loss of even a great player. Like my team did in 08 when TB was lost for the year. If TB had wanted 1/6 of the cap, as great as I think he is…no way would I be happy with/ok with that.

One of the biggest problems with the Colts was not only failure to have a backup QB prepared, but also that they had a bad caching staff. That’s why they were fired too in the purge. If they had a staff like NO or NE or GB, etc. they would have been competitive, even sans PM.

He doesn’t have as much leverage as you claim. He can’t play in the elements come winter. Yes, he is excellent in that dome, which is all the more reason why he should knock it off and agree to terms. He wouldn’t be able to do what Eli does in East Rutherford in December and January, I KNOW THAT.

And how, exactly, do you KNOW THAT? The fact that Brees plays on a team that plays in a dome doesn’t necessarily mean that Brees can’t play well outside of a dome. If I remember correctly, Brees played at Purdue in college, and if you don’t think Big 10 players know how to play in inclement weather, you’re just kidding yourself.

Proof is in the pudding. The playoffs and shaky games in the elements OUTSIDE of the dome — prove my assertion.

Dont get me wrong..He’s an awesome QB, and he deserves to be paid the money he’s looking for..Its his PR skills that suck and are so transparent..

Just hoping the media doesnt make excuses for him when he finally has to show his true colors.

Now I have thought all along, if somehow Brees digs in too hard, he could hit the road and be replaced by Peyton. I don’t think it would be a great move, but I’m sure Peyton would love playing in another dome, for his hometown, for a super bowl ready team. Not gonna happen because Brees doesn’t want to leave, but it would be one heck of a backup plan.

Why do most folks assume the holdup is due to Brees wanting more money? Do you have access to inside information that no one else does? Have you spoken directly to Brees and/or Mickey Loomis?

The Saints have a chance to do something this year that has never been done before in the history of the nfl, win the SB on their homefield.
I’d like to think this group realizes that, and will put the team first in this situation. Will they? Who knows, maybe not. We’ll know by monday.

Tom Condon, also represents Drew Brees, and is probably asking for $23 million a year or so.

Tom Brady makes about $18-$19 million a year, if I remember correctly.

$23-$18 million is a $5 million dollar difference.

Saints are talking Tom Brady money, Codon is talking Peyton Manning money.

No player is worth 1/6 of the entire salary cap. Look at the Colts when Manning got injured.

Brees takes $18-$19 million a year with tons of guaranteed money. end of story.

First off Brady’s contract was 2 years ago, second this is post CBA. Thats why there is a rookie cap so veterans can make more money. 20-22 million dollars a year is about what hes worth and earned. He played the last 6 years at 12 million a year if I remember correctly.

If brees wants to take a home town discount I see no problem with that, but as it stands right now his fair market value is worth 20+ million a year.

Some people may not like that, but this is the reality. Veterans were suppose to cash in after the CBA was negotiated. Before we get to the “the poor owners crowd” lets remember they are saving a lot of money paying the rookies, take a look at Newtons contract compared to same bradfords contract.

As a Saints fan, I’m not so sure I want Drew Brees to completely gut the team just to get the money he believes he deserves. Do not forget, Drew Brees didn’t amount to that much on a somewhat decent team like the Chargers. Sean Payton deserves just as much credit for turning the Saints around as Drew Brees does.

Now having said all this, I do hope they find a way forward, but if Brees’ contract demands are so high that the Saints were forced to let Nicks, Colston, and Meachem go, then I say franchise tag the man and see where that leads.
