Browns franchise Phil Dawson

Both of the kickers in the state of Ohio have the franchise tag.

The Browns will place the franchise tag on kicker Phil Dawson, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. That news comes shortly after news broke that the Bengals will place the franchise tag on kicker Mike Nugent.

It’s the second consecutive year that Dawson has been slapped with the franchise tag. Last year he signed his one-year franchise tender of $3.25 million. This year he’ll be entitled to 120 percent of what he got last year, which is $3.9 million.

Dawson made 24 of his 29 field goal attempts last year, including going an impressive 7-for-8 from beyond 50 yards.

This is pretty sad even for the Browns.

I knew the Bengals liked guys who were rough around the edges, but damn…

Been doing it for a longtime, its not easy to kick in Cleveland with the weather and this guy has been doing it for 10 years…. Good for him.

Who knew that the Motor City Madman could kick the ball too? Rock on Cincinnati!

The one thing the Browns did right in 1999 was sign Phil Dawson. For better or for worse, he is THE Cleveland Brown of the new era. Go Phil Dawg! Go Browns!

Awesome Phil Dawson, thank you browns, this guy has been a stud for years. They need him he know how to kick in the swirling lake front winds. Equals at least 2 extra wins this year!

Congrats to Phil Dawson..the MVP of the new Browns.

Isn’t it usually Rosenthal with the keyboard gaffes? Must be close to happy hour for Michael David.

Peyton Hillis is down to 2 options. Hire a agent or become one.

As a season ticket holder and life long clevelander. I’m pissed. We r paying him $4 mill? Wow. If we were scoring TDs this would not b so effin big of a deal no wonder we r making no headway

Don’t you think he deserves what he’s getting for quite literally scoring half the team’s points for 13 seasons? My God, the Browns wouldn’t have scored at all in 40% of their games if not for this guy.

There are good kickers and their are about 3 “elite” kickers in the league. He’s one of them. If you all remember that buffalo blizzard game a couple years back; He’s the only kicker in the league that can make those kicks. I’ve never seen any thing like it. Youtube it. This tag is good, I don’t care what you haters say. I don’t want billy cundiff trying to win a game for us. Just ask the Ravens how they feel about Phil Dawson after they went to the locker room thinking they just won a game. Only to find out that Phil’s kick was so perfect, it confused the officials. This guy is money.

the Browns are that much of a joke that they use the tag on him two years in a row? LOL
