Report: Titans will not franchise Cortland Finnegan

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Tennessee Titans Getty Images

Not so fast on that report about the Titans franchising Cortland Finnegan.

At 9:36 a.m., Jason La Canfora of NFL Network wrote on Twitter that the Titans are likely to franchise Finnegan. And then at 10:41 a.m., Adam Schefter of ESPN wrote on Twitter that will not franchise Finnegan.

Schefter’s report sounds more definitive than La Canfora’s, and it also meshes with what we’ve been hearing for weeks out of Tennessee, which is that the Titans would like to keep Finnegan but won’t use the franchise tag to do it.

And so we’re inclined to believe that Schefter’s report is on the money, and the Titans will allow Finnegan to become an unrestricted free agent barring a deal being worked out in the next 11 days.

This could be a false story… I will let you know if/when Schefter reports it. Until then call it “hearsay”

Good sources can have bad info; it happens. On another note, Adam and Jason do great work.

I just remember enjoying Finnegan getting his ass whipped by Andre Johnson.

    That was fun.

The real question is whose going to be the next player to bitchslap Finnegan?

  12. humbleminded85 says: Mar 2, 2012 11:24 AM

Just for the record it’s Cortland Innegan not Finnegan…seeing how Andre Johnson beat the F out of him.(I did not come up with that, some other PFT member did and to him I say good job!)

Cortland, the Detroit Lions are on line one.

This guy has been overrated for years! Not saying he’s bad but the Titans D-line has been one of the more consistent d-lines in the past decade. Plus he had decent safety’s over the top for years. I hope Dallas overpays for him so they can continue to suck.

Minny will pay lots of Money and there will be Many fans that will get all Mooney if you come to Minny.

It’s not too poetical, in fact antithetical, if not downright heretical for you to avoid Minny.

Minny will cease consternation and excess mastication to the point of jubilation without need for self-gratification. When you come to Minny.

Your presence in Minny will bring irritation and frustration to Packer Nation. Not so much to the Chicago delegation as they are low on their WR ration.

I close this pretty ditty by warning about a Detroit Kitty. He’s big and fast and can make DBs look, ah, er, bad. So come to Minny, Mr. Finny.

Yeah, that Calvin Johnson sure is self-destructing. Same with Matthew Stafford. Think first, then type; it works wonders.

Hold on a sec, so Shefter overruled La Canfora?

Who died and made Shefter God?

I’m not saying either one is right or wrong, but to go with Shefter here seems like a stretch.

Im pretty sure Stafford had a self destructive moment last year. Actually it lead to a small brawl with the Bears. He had a brain fart but nonetheless it was immature and SELF- destructive. Now CJ is just a class act. It’s obvious. But Pettigrew, Titus, Suh, Fairley, Gosder(always been self-destructive). All young and talented, also had their moments last year, so yeah he got it right talented immature and self destructive. Im a Lions fan and not blind. Next year, expect a more mature team, without a doubt. Lions grew a whole lot this year and the NFC North needs to be scared.

The Andre Johnson stuff is getting old. 99% of corners would get slapped around by AJ, atleast Cortland tried to go toe 2 toe with him. This guy isnt immature either. He’s a leader on the field playing 100% of the Titan’s defensive snaps. A leader in his community as well. Cortland would be an instant starter for every defense in this league. He had the worst pass rush support in the league so saying he’s only good because of line support is 100% false.

Get with the program. No news is news until Schefter confirms it or shoots it down. This includes news tweeted by reporters, players, or players agents. Since Schefter is the best source he is now considered THE source. It is the job of PFT and other writers to take information confirmed by Schefter then get more information and turn it into an actual story. To take a story that Schefter has not yet confirmed can create false storys and misinformation. That’s why its becoming more evident that there is an unwritten rule among reporters not to write a story untill Schefter confirms the news. Obviously this only holds true for things like free agent signing, franchise tags, cuts, etc. that actually need confirmation by Schefter to be rendered true.

  27. joetoronto says: Mar 2, 2012 1:16 PM

No, YOU better get with the program, tharoostah.

    You’re out of order.

I don’t have a dog in this race, rumors are rumors, but you obviously do.

    I wonder why.

Bears need to sign this guy. Put him opposite side of Tillman, add up a first round pick DE or sign a FA DE and our starting Def will be solid. Just need to add youth to our back ups and we’re solid. GO BEARS!!

  32. hatesycophants says: Mar 2, 2012 1:49 PM

    @bigbear,

Yeah, because tbe Bears’ secondary is elite? Like your offensive line? Like your receivers? Like your old D? Like your coaching staff? Like your front office? Like your turf? You should seriously consider pulling your head out before you post again.

    Go Lions! Go Badgers!

Pretty uppity for someone whose team has not won a playoff game in 500 years, a Super Bowl ever, and is a few years removed from 0 – 16. Anything else you wanted to say, or do you feel stupid enough now?
