Vikings have no comment on Bountygate

Saints Vikings Football AP

On one hand, an NFL player shouldn’t need the incentive of an extra $1,000 in order to play hard and aggressively when a berth in the Super Bowl is riding on the outcome of a game.  On the other hand, the fact that Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams felt compelled to have a bounty program during the 2009 postseason implies strongly that he believes the extra little kick to the pocketbook helped.

Either way, the franchise that was on the wrong side of the Bayou Bounty System isn’t saying anything about it.  Team spokesman Bob Hagan tells PFT that the Vikings have no comment on the situation.

One guy who likely will have a comment, or 50, regarding the matter is former Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, whose lower limbs matched the color of his helmet after being knocked around by the Saints defense through the 2009 NFC title game.

Until Favre talks, keep in mind that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson accused Saints safety Jabari Greer of twisting Peterson’s ankle at the bottom of a pile during a December 2011 game between the teams.

“I came into the game kind of expecting that coming back from a high ankle sprain,” Peterson said at the time.  “Guys are going to try to take their shots when we’re on the pile and try to twist it up and things like that. I felt like it kind of got overboard. I got up and kind of got in his face. Thank God I was able to keep my composure.”

Peterson may not be able to keep his composure the next time he runs into Williams or any of the members of the Saints’ 2009 defense.

Stop calling everything gate. Watergate was the name of the hotel, gate wasn’t added to it to signify a wrongdoing. Try to actually be creative and think of something…anything on your own.

Yeah, you don’t really have a comment when it comes to that sort of crap. Absolutely ridiculous. I would be through the roof if I was anyone on the Vikings team.

  3. shrimpdd says: Mar 2, 2012 5:40 PM

Since Drew Brees is a free agent anyway, the only rational penalty Goodell can resort to is to forbid the Saints from signing Brees and award his potential franchise rights to the Vikings. Considering what the Saints did to Favre, that’s fair.

It’d serve Vilma right for offering a $10,000 bounty on #4.

true class professionals……unlike the saints organization, hopefully the NFL league office will hurt them where they will feel it just the same

  5. WestCoastVet says: Mar 2, 2012 5:43 PM

This day just keeps getting worse and worse for the Saints.

  6. raidersfreak says: Mar 2, 2012 5:47 PM

Now the fallout begins and wanting players deliberately hurt for extra cash is ruthless

I feel bad for Saint fans but not for the the People that played this Role. What a shame.

For those keeping track, I hate the Saints.

  8. threed61 says: Mar 2, 2012 5:51 PM

Did anyone who watched the game doubt that the Saints were a dirty team?

  9. vikingsnorth says: Mar 2, 2012 5:56 PM

What’s the deal with this league? Rape, murder, drugs… yeah, you can still play. Questionable hit… massive fine and suspension. This is a pretty serious violation on several levels… so it’ll probably be swept under the table.

  10. darthhitman77 says: Mar 2, 2012 6:18 PM

Considering the lawsuits the NFL is coming under from former players and this deal now coming out I must say, if there was ever a “death penalty” handed down at the NFL level it should be now on these guys. They’re lucky I’m not Goodell or I’d ban Greg Williams for life and Payton too [if it’s true he was well aware of this happening]. I would then suspend every player [currently on the team or not] that is found guilty of participation in this while I would force the Saints to forfeit all their picks in this April’s draft along with all the odd rounds for next year. This is unacceptable and has no place in the game. Any and all coaches who allowed this to occur need to be gone. This league [as with all other team sport leagues] are absolutely nothing without the players.

  11. cliffordc05 says: Mar 2, 2012 6:19 PM

There is no denying the good feeling a defender feels when they knock a player out of the game with a good clean hit. I am not talking about a knee injury but something like ringing the other guy’s bell or knocking the wind out of them with a clean shot to the chest. For a reasonable individual the euphoria of the good hard hit is generally overtaken by concern for the other player. Everyone on the field is at the same risk of injury and putting a bounty on offensive players leads to serious injuries, cheap shots, and overall questions about just what kind of game is being played.

There really is no excuse for any organized system of bounties. Apology….not accepted.

By running into any member of the Saints 2009 defense, do you mean his teammate Remi Ayodele?

  13. palewook says: Mar 2, 2012 6:33 PM

nfl needs to strip the saints of every draft pick for 2012. send a real message.

  14. Soulman45 says: Mar 2, 2012 6:33 PM

    Check out my math!!!!!!!!!!!!
A dirty team I though the Lions was the only dirty team if it is two or more it is a dirty league.

The Vikings have a class organization, so I guess I’ll have to do it myself: Saints are cheaters!

The only way this story becomes about Favre is if the media drags him into it. I’m sure one of the media’s talking heads will call Favre a diva after he’s forced to give one of those ESPN reporterette bimbos an interview just to get down the driveway. Leave the guy alone!

If the vikequeefs are so classy then how do you explain them having the ignominious distinction of having the most players arrested in the previous 20 years? The queens showed their class, or lack of, last year when in piteous desperation to house a Lombardi they rostered Moss and a kept the sexting grandpa……………..nuff said.

  20. lpd1964 says: Mar 2, 2012 8:27 PM

Since there was a bounty on Favre in the 2009 title game, it only makes sense to award a few of the saints draft picks to the vikings. Saints=classless!!

  21. burrito12 says: Mar 2, 2012 8:45 PM

The Vikings have no comment because what would they say? That they lost the game because they were hit hard? No, they lost the game because their coach couldn’t count and their geriatric qb at the time didn’t know how to take a knee.

Class organization, ha….. Queen fans really need a reality check. The rest of the NFL thinks you are a joke!

  22. deconjonesbitchslap says: Mar 2, 2012 8:50 PM

can you imagine if a company like Coca Cola sent bombs and hitmen to Pepsi to take out their manufacturing and researchers? wouldn’t that be seen as illegal? why is this any different? Favre and Warner were the keys to the offenses, so the Saints sent hitmen to take them out. I have zero respect for that team and anybody on it. forever, i will declare an asterisk for that team.

said the fan of team which has had a serial killer, person kicked out the league for gambling on football games, and a tight end who wants to party with underage girls in a hot tub…

Oh, and by the way, where do thinking sexting grandpa cut his chops….

Well I am glad the Vikes are taking the high road, unlike thier fans who have cried about how it was rigged, cause of Katrina.

I would actually like to commend the fans because they haven’t brought that up in this thread, glad you guys are over it.

No…….you Sconi Packer rubes are the only ones with SOOOOOOO much to say about a team you supposedly hate so much……..so who is the joke? A joke of a performance is going 15-1 and not even winning a playoff game…….JOKE!!!!!

Queens have no comments? I’ll bet they’re the ones who kept whining to the league to investigate. The Saints did nothing wrong in that game, it’s time for the NFL to move on.

Wow…..back with a real zinger…….you are another rube that thinks just because you root for the Packers you are smarter than us all…….and now smarter than the NFL Front Office!!! What a SHOCK!!!! Must be great to be not only a NFL genious in everway, but great to also have insight to the truth behind everything NFL related including the truths in investigations…….and all because you cheer for the Packers!!!!!! “Stock” options and now this? What a great perk!!!!

Well any Packer fan is smarter than any Queens fan. Queens fans are just jealous that Wisconsin has Champions. 0 NFL Titles & 0 BCS Titles in Minnesota, when was the last time the Gophers even made the Rose Bowl? And by the way, Matt Kenseth, from you guessed it, Wisconsin, won the Daytona 500.

Any Packer fan is smarter huh?? Well, you proved yourself wrong with that statement to start out with……..typical arrogance of a Packer rube……you cheer for a team therefore you think you are better….HAHA!!! How many World Series Titles you got over there in Sconi guy??? MN=2 Sconi=0. How many D-1 Hockey Titles you got compared to the Gophers? How many D-1 Wrestling titles you got compared to the Gophers? How many more fat women you got………well, we all know the answer to that. Remember, you are the one who went away from NFL talk with your “Wisconsin has champions” garbage…..not me. Next thing your gonna tell me is that there are more lakes in Sconi because you count those 1 acre duck sloughs as lakes over there……is there even a real lake in that state?

  32. teamnorsecore says: Mar 5, 2012 5:08 AM

Wow…..Sconi has 6 hockey titles!!!! NICE!!!! I take that back. Not sure why you brought up BCS National Championships because the Badgers has as many as the Gophers……0. If you are talking NCAA National Football Championships all time……its not even close…..Gophers 7 / Badgers 1……..that on top of the MN 2 – Sconi 0 in Wold Series Titles. Why am I even responding to this rube…..aaaahhhhh….

  33. pack13queens0 says: Mar 5, 2012 9:14 PM

teamnorsecore-I didn’t bring up World Series or hockey titles because nobody cares. I only bring up football & Nascar because those are the only 2 real sports.

May I ask why you brought up BCS Championships? Your Badgers have zero?!?!? Now I suppose you’ll tell me you meant BCS Bowl games….LOL!!!! I thought all that matter to Sconies was “Championships”? Should I start “bragging” that my team, The Vikes, has more NFC North/Central Championships than any other team in the Division (Vikes – 18, Pack – 10, Bears – 10, Lions – 3, Bucs – 3 ??? Not sure why I am responding to you again…..you lost ALL credibility on here when you said NASCAR was a sport…….Good Grief!!!!
